‘Cœur de Vigneronne’ means ‘heart of the winemaker’, and that about sums it up - this is a labour of love to be sure.

Why do we love this wine?

Another 100 point score from Suckling (following a perfect 100 points for vintage 2021) puts this wine into the echelons of 'world's greatest' - not only one of the great Beaujolais' the world has seen, but one of the great wines. There is nothing this wine can't do, no palate that it can't immediately impress.

Beyond all that high praise, though, the wine: pomegranate, sappy rhubarb, slatey minerality, raspberries, cherries, some earthy leafy character, and a gorgeous sanguine vibe. This is Bojo, all grown up - transcendent stuff.

A totally classic Beaujolais, but this mind-blowing wine also redefines what Beaujolais can be. That starts with how it pulls the white rabbit of mind-blowing freshness and purity out of the hat in this very hot and dry vintage. The depth of the red fruit aromas is off the scale. Enormously concentrated but precise and filigreed, with an almost overwhelming minerality in the almost endless finish. From old vines in the Les Caves site of Moulin-a-Vent. Matured in used oak barrels from Burgundy for just under a year. Drink or hold.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Moulin-à-Vent represents Beaujolais at its most sophisticated - what critics call 'Bojo, all grown up'. Unlike lighter, fruitier Beaujolais styles, this wine showcases the serious potential of Gamay when grown in Moulin-à-Vent's granite soils. The slatey minerality and structured tannins demonstrate how this cru can rival Burgundy's complexity while maintaining Gamay's inherent charm and food-friendliness.

Suckling's perfect score reflects the wine's extraordinary balance between power and elegance, following his 100-point rating for the 2021 vintage. The wine demonstrates exceptional terroir expression with its mineral backbone, complex fruit layers, and what he describes as universal appeal - capable of impressing any palate immediately. This back-to-back perfection suggests Domaine Anita has mastered their vineyard management and winemaking approach.

The wine's textured, savoury profile and sanguine character make it incredibly versatile with food. Its pomegranate and cherry notes complement duck, lamb, or game birds beautifully, while the earthy minerality pairs excellently with mushroom dishes or aged cheeses. The medium body and balanced acidity also make it perfect for charcuterie, roasted vegetables, or even grilled salmon - showcasing Gamay's renowned food-friendly nature.

Serve this wine slightly below room temperature (around 16-18°C) to highlight its mineral complexity and fruit precision. While drinking beautifully now, this wine has the structure to age gracefully for 8-12 years, developing more earthy, tertiary flavours. Store it in a cool, dark place and consider decanting for 30 minutes before serving to allow the wine's layers to fully express themselves.

Moulin-à-Vent is considered the 'King of Beaujolais' - the most structured and age-worthy of the ten Beaujolais crus. Its granite and manganese-rich soils produce Gamay wines with remarkable depth and longevity, often compared to Burgundy's Pinot Noir. The appellation's name comes from a historic windmill, and wines from here represent the pinnacle of what Gamay can achieve when grown in exceptional terroir.
