This is a wine that encapsulates everything that we love about Australia’s most iconic cabernet region, Coonawarra. Deep, dark-fruited intensity, met with smooth, well-integrated oak and that eucalypty hint that we all know so well. This lot have created an absolute cracker here - no surprises, they do every year.

Why do we love this wine?

From the exceptional 2021 vintage, this is full-bodied cabernet that lets the terroir do the talking. Produced by certified Coonawara royalty, it’s bursting with ripe blackcurrant, blueberry and boysenberry, but layered with distinctive mint and eucalypt that let you know exactly where this wine's from. Eighteen months in a mix of French and American oak (35% new) brings a lick of toasty vanilla, spice and richness to the palate, while fine, mature tannins and bright acidity keep it all perfectly in check. Open-top fermentation and mature vines have lent a softness and depth to the wine, making it immensely enjoyable now, with the structure to cellar confidently for 8-10 years. It’s bold, it’s balanced, to be honest, in our eyes, it's perfect.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases the distinctive terroir signatures that make Coonawarra legendary - the characteristic mint and eucalyptus notes that complement rich blackcurrant flavours. The region's famous terra rossa soil over limestone creates ideal drainage and mineral complexity, while the cool maritime climate allows for extended ripening periods. Combined with 18 months in premium French and American oak and open-top fermentation techniques, this creates a wine that's unmistakably Coonawarra yet refined enough to earn 95 points from Wine Showcase.

This Cabernet is beautifully balanced for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring, with an optimal drinking window of 8-10 years from vintage. The 2021 growing season provided exceptional fruit concentration and natural acidity, while the wine's fine tannin structure and oak integration create the backbone needed for graceful ageing. The mature vine fruit and careful winemaking mean it's already showing beautifully now, but will develop greater complexity and tertiary flavours through the late 2020s and early 2030s.

The wine's rich blackcurrant core and distinctive mint-eucalyptus character make it exceptional with red meat dishes, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with herb crusts where the wine's natural herbaceous notes create harmony. The 18-month oak regime and full-bodied structure can handle robust flavours like aged cheeses, grilled portobello mushrooms, or even game meats. The bright acidity and fine tannins also make it surprisingly versatile with Mediterranean cuisine featuring olives, herbs, and tomato-based sauces.

The exceptional 2021 vintage combined with expert Coonawarra winemaking has created a wine that perfectly balances power with elegance. The multiple gold medals from prestigious competitions like the AIWC International Wine Competition and Wine Showcase Magazine reflect the wine's technical excellence and regional typicity. The 95-point Wine Showcase rating particularly recognises how the wine expresses classic Coonawarra character while maintaining the structure and complexity expected from premium Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 18-month maturation in a carefully selected mix of French and American oak (35% new) adds layers of complexity without overwhelming the fruit character. French oak contributes subtle spice notes and refined tannin integration, while American oak provides the toasty vanilla elements that complement the wine's natural berry flavours. This balanced approach allows the distinctive Coonawarra mint and eucalyptus characteristics to shine through while adding richness and structure that will support the wine's 8-10 year cellaring potential.
