Why do we love this wine?

This thrilling wine is a great example of Barossa shiraz that's made to be enjoyed. Fruit was sourced from carefully selected Barossa vineyards or 'contract growers' as some call them (that's just wine business-speak for mates of the winemakers). Well, when your winemakers are this prolific then odds are that they're going to be mates with some folks who grow pretty special fruit. It's that special fruit that brings the purity, power, and drive to this wine. Put that fantastic fruit in the crafty hands of winemakers that have made more shirazes than most have had hot dinners and this wonderfully bold but fruit-forward wine is born. To say we're enjoying it is wild understatement.

Wine Orbit

"It's richly fruited and fragrant on the nose with dark berry, mixed spice, floral, and toasted hazelnut aromas. The palate is equally attractive with succulent fruit intensity and spicy nuances, superbly framed by finely infused tannins. Generous and flavoursome with a lengthy, delicious finish. At its best: now to 2036." - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Frequently Asked Questions

Basket pressing is a traditional, gentle extraction method that separates juice from grape skins using minimal pressure, preserving the wine's purity and elegance. This technique allows the Craneford winemakers to capture the essence of their carefully selected Barossa fruit without over-extracting harsh tannins. The result is a wine that maintains the power and drive characteristic of Barossa Shiraz while showcasing the fruit's natural character and complexity.

The 2021 vintage in Barossa was marked by cooler growing conditions and well-timed rainfall, creating ideal circumstances for Shiraz development. These conditions allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, developing concentrated flavours while retaining natural acidity. The vintage's moderate temperatures helped preserve the raspberry and spice characteristics evident in this wine, while still delivering the full-bodied richness that Barossa Shiraz is renowned for.

This rich, spice-driven Shiraz pairs beautifully with robust dishes that can match its intensity - think slow-cooked lamb shanks, barbecued beef ribs, or aged hard cheeses. The wine's vanilla notes from oak aging complement grilled meats perfectly, while its raspberry fruit provides a lovely contrast to gamey flavours. For vegetarian options, try it with mushroom-based dishes or roasted eggplant with herbs, as these earthy flavours harmonise with the wine's spice profile.

The impressive 94-point Wine Pilot rating and 4.1 Vivino score demonstrate exceptional quality that punches well above typical price points for Barossa Shiraz. These ratings reflect the wine's successful balance of power and drinkability - it's approachable now but has the structure for aging. The consistently high scores across different rating systems indicate broad appeal among both critics and everyday wine drinkers, suggesting excellent value for a premium Barossa expression.

Serve this Shiraz at 16-18°C to showcase its full spectrum of raspberry, spice, and vanilla flavours - slightly cooler than room temperature brings out its elegance. While delicious now, this wine has the structure to develop beautifully over 5-8 years, with the fruit flavours evolving into more complex secondary characteristics. Decanting for 30-60 minutes before serving will help integrate the flavours and soften any youthful tannins, revealing the wine's full potential.
