Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

These blokes are smashing it! Mark Cooper & Russell Burns are well-known wine professionals with plenty of experience and, if this wine is anything to go off, plenty of skill. Beautifully rich and complex, there's black fruits, vanillin oak, smoked meats and toasted spice on the nose, leading to a gorgeously mouth filling palate offering great concentration with a juicy texture and layers upon layers of fine tannins. This will be drinking well for another 10 years (at least). An extremely well made wine that's just entering the best years of its life.

" Wonderfully rich and complex, the wine shows blackberry, vanillin oak, smoked game and toasted spice aromas on the nose, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate offering plump mouthfeel combined with fleshy texture and layers of fine tannins, finishing splendidly long and harmonious. At its best: now to 2033. 94 Points." - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Ken Gargett

Ken Gargett

“This is amazing value. A delicious Barossa Shiraz with some significant cellar time and hailing from one of the great vintages, for under fifty bucks? Jump on this – you will not regret it. The wine has an inky, dark magenta/purple colour. The time in the cellar has undoubtedly helped. This is richly flavoured, dense and dancing, with notes of chocolate, mocha, coffee beans and licorice. This is very generous, beautifully balanced, seamless and with very good length, and it is also exhibiting early complexity. The tannins and soft and powdery. Love it. Another ten years of pleasure at least, ahead of it. 95 Points.” - Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cooper Burns 'Livingston' represents the pinnacle of Barossa Valley winemaking, crafted by industry veterans Mark Cooper and Russell Burns who bring decades of professional experience. The 2018 vintage showcases the region's ability to produce wines with exceptional complexity - combining rich black fruits with sophisticated oak integration and distinctive smoked meat characteristics. With multiple 90+ point ratings including 95 points from Wine Pilot, this wine demonstrates the elevated quality that separates premium Barossa Shiraz from everyday Australian reds.

This Shiraz is currently entering its prime drinking window and will continue to develop beautifully for at least another decade. The 2018 vintage has had sufficient time to integrate its tannins and develop secondary characteristics, while the wine's full-bodied structure and concentrated fruit will support extended ageing. For those who enjoy more primary fruit flavours, it's drinking superbly now, but patience will be rewarded with increased complexity and the emergence of tertiary flavours like leather, tobacco, and earth.

The wine's meaty, spiced profile and robust tannin structure make it an ideal match for grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with pepper crusts. The allspice and plum notes complement game dishes, while the smoky characteristics pair beautifully with barbecued meats or dishes featuring bacon and chorizo. The wine's concentration and full body can also stand up to rich, aged cheeses and hearty stews, making it versatile for both casual and formal dining occasions.

The 'Livingston' designation represents a specific vineyard site or block selection within Cooper Burns' Barossa Valley holdings, indicating this wine comes from premium fruit sources rather than a general regional blend. Single-vineyard or designated block wines like this typically showcase unique terroir characteristics and receive special winemaking attention, explaining the wine's exceptional complexity and critical acclaim. This level of site-specific winemaking demonstrates Cooper Burns' commitment to expressing the finest qualities of their Barossa Valley vineyards.

The exceptional ratings reflect the wine's technical excellence and stylistic sophistication, with critics recognising the masterful balance between power and elegance. The 95-point score from Ken Gargett highlights the wine's 'layers upon layers of fine tannins' and remarkable concentration, while the consistent 90+ ratings across multiple critics indicate broad recognition of its quality. The combination of experienced winemakers, premium Barossa fruit, and meticulous craftsmanship has created a wine that exemplifies what Australian Shiraz can achieve at its finest level.
