Deliciously ripe and subtly spiced. Bramble and currants wrapped in toffee and sweet smoke, with classic Bordeaux tobacco and herb aromatics in the mix. This falls into the approachable, broadly appealing, crowd pleasing spectrum, leaving the BDXs reputation for stiff upper lips (I'm looking at you, Left bank) in its wake.

Why do we love this wine?

This is a second generation producer making wine from estate fruit to the south of Bordeaux (as in the city, not the appellation). It borrows stylistically from the Right Bank Bordeaux playbook in that it is merlot dominant (50%), with cab franc and cab sauv making up the rest of the blend. The merlot dominance makes for more approachable, fuller, richer wines that actually suit Australian palates a little better (in my opinion), due to their celebration of fruit, boldness, and unapologetic fruit density.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine follows the Right Bank Bordeaux approach with 50% Merlot leading the blend, rather than the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant Left Bank style. The Merlot dominance creates a more approachable, fruit-forward wine with fuller body and richer texture that appeals particularly well to Australian palates. This style celebrates bold fruit density over the more austere, structured approach of traditional Left Bank Bordeaux.

The 2022 vintage has earned multiple gold medals across prestigious international competitions including Gilbert & Gaillard, Lyon International, and Frankfurt International Wine Trophy. This recognition reflects the wine's exceptional quality for a Bordeaux AOC, particularly its successful balance of Right Bank approachability with classic Bordeaux structure. The consistent gold medal performance across different judging panels demonstrates the wine's broad appeal and technical excellence.

The full-bodied nature and rich fruit density make this wine ideal for hearty dishes like roasted lamb, beef bourguignon, or aged hard cheeses. The cedar notes complement grilled meats beautifully, while the blackberry and rhubarb flavours pair excellently with duck confit or mushroom-based dishes. The wine's approachable style also works well with barbecued meats, making it versatile for both formal dining and casual entertaining.

The 2022 vintage represents a new generation of Bordeaux producers who are crafting more fruit-forward, immediately enjoyable wines while maintaining regional authenticity. This estate-grown wine demonstrates how modern Bordeaux can appeal to contemporary palates without sacrificing the terroir expression that defines the region. The vintage showcases excellent ripeness and concentration, typical of Bordeaux's recent string of successful harvests.

Estate-grown fruit ensures complete control over viticulture and harvest timing, resulting in higher quality than wines made from purchased grapes. Being located south of Bordeaux city gives this producer access to excellent terroir while maintaining AOC status, which guarantees adherence to strict regional winemaking standards. This second-generation producer combines traditional Bordeaux knowledge with modern techniques, creating wines that honour the region's heritage while appealing to contemporary tastes.
