Why do we love this wine?

Pessac-Léognan is situated in the gravelly section of Bordeaux’s aptly named ‘Graves’, producing super high-quality white wines as well as reds. But make no mistake, the rouge blends are certainly the star of the river bank. Château Brown perfectly balances traditional ideas in the context of today, combining generations of winemaking and viticulture with the ever-important reintroduction of vineyard biodiversity.

Merlot dominant, this blend is structurally supported with 32% cabernet and a 3% splash of petit verdot to ensure colour, balance and an impressive length that’ll cellar well into the next two decades. Each vintage of the Château Brown is matured for 12-15 months in 100% french oak, 40% of which is brand new. The fruit is 100% manually harvested, with bunch selection on the vine. Precision and attention to detail are assured from the moment these vines bear fruit right up until you take your very first sip. So treat yourself to the fruits of this utter gem, you’ve earned it!

Decanter

Beautifully sleek, fresh plum and damson fruit on the nose, and a confidently extracted deep purple colour. The little touch of Petit Verdot is making a clear impact here, with a brush of black pepper spice. Jean-Christophe Mau works with Stephane Derenoncourt as a consultant, and there is a lovely focus in the vibrancy of the fruit, vinified in small stainless-steel tanks. 33% of malolactic takes place in new oak and the rest in stainless steel. The blend here is 50% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot, aged in 33% new oak barrels for 14 months
