Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Plum, blackcurrant, liquorice and refined oak leap out of the glass and, joined by a weighty texture and soft tannin, fill out the entire palate. The natural acid brings a lively, 'light-on-its-feet' brightness to the palate and extends the flavoursome finish. There's hints of mint and Eucalypt, as you'd hope from Coonawarra, but nothing that's going to put off anyone new to the region. If you've never tried Coonawarra cabernet but always wondered what it tastes like - this is what it tastes like.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil over limestone creates ideal drainage and mineral complexity that gives Cabernet Sauvignon its signature eucalyptus and mint characteristics. This 2022 example showcases these regional hallmarks beautifully while remaining approachable for newcomers. The cool climate allows for extended ripening, developing intense blackcurrant flavours while maintaining natural acidity that keeps the wine fresh and balanced.

The 2022 vintage earned a 'Killer Vintage' rating of 90 points, indicating exceptional growing conditions that year. Cool, consistent weather allowed the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to develop concentrated flavours while retaining bright natural acidity. This balance between power and elegance is evident in the wine's ability to deliver full-bodied richness without heaviness, creating that desirable 'light-on-its-feet' quality despite its substantial palate weight.

The wine's plum and blackcurrant fruit, combined with refined oak and soft tannins, makes it perfect for red meat dishes like grilled lamb with rosemary or beef wellington. The eucalyptus notes complement herb-crusted roasts beautifully, while the liquorice undertones pair excellently with aged cheeses. The wine's natural acidity cuts through rich, fatty dishes, making it ideal for slow-cooked beef or venison stews.

Soft tannins indicate the wine won't create a dry, puckering sensation in your mouth like some young Cabernets can. This suggests careful winemaking techniques, possibly including gentle extraction and quality oak maturation that has integrated the tannins smoothly. The result is a wine that's approachable now while still maintaining the structure needed for ageing, offering immediate drinking pleasure without sacrificing the backbone that defines great Cabernet Sauvignon.

Estate grown means the winery controls the entire process from vineyard to bottle, growing their own grapes rather than purchasing from other growers. This allows for meticulous quality control, optimal harvest timing, and vineyard practices specifically tailored to their winemaking style. For this boutique Coonawarra producer, estate growing ensures the grapes perfectly express the unique terra rossa terroir, resulting in the authentic regional character and consistent quality that earned this wine its 90-point rating.
