Why do we love this wine?

This South Aussie producer is fast becoming a mofo favourite across their delicious red and white wines. They seek out parcels of quality grapes in Barossa, McLaren and in this case the maritime region of Langhorne Creek. Their wines are made to a high standard across the range and are reliably delicious. This cabernet shows off a perfumed nose of flowers, juicy plums and dried herbs, followed by a medium-bodied, ripe and textured palate. There’s a gentle earthiness in the wine that is wrapped in blackberries and a lingering olive tapenade finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Langhorne Creek's maritime climate provides the perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, with cooling breezes from Lake Alexandrina moderating temperatures and extending the ripening season. This allows the grapes to develop complex flavours while retaining natural acidity, resulting in wines with both power and elegance. The region's alluvial soils contribute to the wine's distinctive earthiness and mineral complexity that complements the variety's natural blackcurrant and plum characteristics.

While Barossa Cabernets are known for their intense, concentrated power, this Langhorne Creek expression offers a more restrained, maritime-influenced style. The cooling lake breezes create wines with greater freshness and herbal complexity, evident in this wine's perfumed floral notes and olive tapenade finish. This represents excellent value as it delivers the quality associated with premium South Australian regions while showcasing the unique terroir characteristics that make Langhorne Creek increasingly sought after.

The wine's medium-bodied structure and earthy olive tapenade finish make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Try it with herb-crusted lamb, grilled portobello mushrooms, or aged hard cheeses where the wine's gentle earthiness will complement rather than overpower. The blackberry fruit and spice notes also pair beautifully with barbecued meats or rich pasta dishes with mushroom-based sauces.

This producer's success stems from their strategic approach of sourcing quality fruit from diverse premium regions like Barossa, McLaren Vale, and Langhorne Creek, then applying consistent winemaking standards across their range. Their Five Red Star Halliday rating reflects this commitment to quality, while their ability to showcase distinct regional characteristics in each wine demonstrates sophisticated understanding of terroir. This reliability and regional expression combination is increasingly rare at accessible price points.

This wine is designed for both immediate enjoyment and medium-term cellaring, with optimal drinking likely between now and 2030. The maritime influence of Langhorne Creek typically produces Cabernets with good natural acidity and tannin structure for ageing, while the wine's current perfumed aromatics and fresh fruit character make it delicious now. Proper cellaring will allow the earthy elements to integrate further and develop more complex secondary flavours while maintaining the wine's elegant, food-friendly style.
