It's hard not to get carried away with a wine like this. All the richness, ripeness and flat-out grunt that you'd expect from the Barossa. All the structure, leafiness and subtle complexity that you'd expect from cabernet. You could say 'the best of both worlds' but we just reckon this one's 'the best'.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Barossa cab often gets overshadowed by its spotlight-hoarding mate shiraz, but as this wine will show, Barossa cabernet can definitely hold its own with the big boys! This one is sourced from a single vineyard site planted on red clay and limestone. As you’d expect from a Barossa red, it’s beautifully ripe and rich, with an intricate palate of plum, spice, cassis and cedar. The tannins are chalky and the finish is long. with a couple of years under the belt, this wine has up to a decade of enjoyment ahead of it, so if it sounds like your thing, one six pack may not be enough!

Frequently Asked Questions

Barossa Valley built its reputation on bold, powerful Shiraz wines that became the region's flagship style, naturally drawing most of the attention and acclaim. However, the same warm climate and diverse soils that produce exceptional Shiraz also create ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, allowing it to achieve full ripeness while maintaining structure. This wine demonstrates that Barossa Cabernet can rival the region's famous Shiraz with its own distinct character of cassis, cedar, and refined tannins.

Red clay soils retain moisture and provide steady water supply during Barossa's hot summers, while limestone contributes crucial acidity and mineral complexity that prevents the wine from becoming overly heavy. This soil combination is particularly beneficial for Cabernet Sauvignon, as the clay helps develop the wine's rich fruit concentration while limestone adds the structural backbone and chalky tannins that give this wine its elegant finish. The single vineyard sourcing ensures consistent terroir expression throughout.

With a couple of years already under its belt, this wine is entering its optimal drinking window but has significant aging potential ahead. The combination of full-bodied structure, chalky tannins, and high-quality single vineyard fruit suggests it will continue developing complexity for up to a decade from vintage date. You can enjoy it now for its vibrant fruit character, or cellar it to allow the cedar and spice notes to integrate further while the tannins soften.

The wine's rich plum and cassis flavors, combined with cedar and spice notes, make it ideal for grilled red meats, particularly beef steaks or lamb with herb crusts. The chalky tannins and full body can stand up to bold flavors like aged cheeses, mushroom-based dishes, or barbecued meats with smoky elements. The tobacco and oaky characteristics also complement dishes with earthy components like roasted root vegetables or game meats.

A 95-point rating from Wine Orbit places this wine in the 'outstanding' category, indicating exceptional quality that significantly exceeds typical expectations for its price point. Wine Orbit's five-star rating system and their specific recognition of single vineyard quality suggests this wine demonstrates remarkable concentration, balance, and aging potential. Combined with strong Vivino consumer ratings, this indicates both critical acclaim and broad appeal among wine drinkers.
