Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

These guys are one of the most recognisable names in West Australian wine, full stop. They've been making cabernet of exceptional quality (and value) since 1974 - yep, proper 'founder era' stuff. This bottle here is the culmination of tradition, innovation and the experience to chose when to lean of which. Cassis, dark cherry and a cedary, cigar-box complexity on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully structured - mulberry, fine-grained tannins, a leafy freshness and a long, satisfying finish that just keeps building. Classic Margaret River drive and elegance without a single note out of place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Margaret River's unique maritime climate creates ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with exceptional balance between power and elegance. The region's gravelly soils and consistent ocean breezes allow for slow, even ripening, resulting in wines with intense fruit concentration while maintaining natural acidity. This 2020 vintage showcases the classic Margaret River style - full-bodied yet refined, with the signature cassis and cedar notes that have made the region internationally renowned.

Receiving 95 points from both the Halliday Wine Companion and IWSC represents exceptional achievement, placing this wine in the top tier of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. These scores indicate a wine of outstanding complexity, balance, and ageing potential. The consistency between two prestigious rating systems confirms the wine's technical excellence and suggests it will develop beautifully over the next decade, making it both enjoyable now and a worthy cellar investment.

This wine's rich tannin structure and dark fruit profile make it perfect for robust dishes like grilled lamb with rosemary, aged beef steaks, or slow-cooked osso buco. The cedar and cigar-box complexity also pairs beautifully with mature cheeses like aged cheddar or blue cheese. The wine's natural acidity cuts through rich, fatty meats while its fruit intensity complements char-grilled flavours and herb-crusted preparations.

Premium Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon from established producers typically peaks between 8-15 years from vintage, meaning this 2020 has excellent cellaring potential until 2035 or beyond. The wine's fine-grained tannins and balanced structure suggest it will develop greater complexity and integration over time. While delicious now, patience will be rewarded as the primary fruit evolves into more nuanced secondary flavours of leather, tobacco, and earth.

Wines from 'founder era' producers carry the accumulated wisdom of nearly five decades of winemaking experience, with techniques refined through countless vintages since 1974. This translates to superior vineyard site selection, optimal harvest timing, and traditional winemaking methods that prioritise quality over quantity. The result is a wine that represents not just a single vintage, but generations of expertise in understanding Margaret River's unique terroir and how to express it through Cabernet Sauvignon.
