This is hardcore Cab. The kind of bottle you open sitting around the campfire after a big day paddling over waterfalls or fighting bears. It’s rich, bold and smooth; everything we aspire to be. Distinguished, luxurious, full-bodied and finely crafted. Six years in - this one's just getting started!

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

The nose opens with cherry ripe and hints of vanilla. There’s obvious oak which, rather than overpower and detract from the fruit, merely adds another element of interest. It’s savoury with a gutsy core of savouriness, umami maybe? And that’s just the nose. Spice features early on the palate followed by a surge of fruit that runs through the spectrum of red to black. The tannin structure is bold and confident keeping everything in place. It finishes long and dry leaving you wondering what just happened. The fact there is so much going on and it remains entirely integrated is fascinating. Best go back for another look we say. Be warned though, you’ll probably be staring at the bottom of the bottle by the time you come to terms with each of the elements that make up this wine, it is intriguing. You could watch the bottle evolve over a few days and still discover something new with each sip.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases the exceptional terroir of Margaret River, where the maritime climate allows for extended ripening periods that develop both fruit intensity and structural complexity. The integration of bold tannins with layers of red and black fruit creates a wine that reveals new elements with each sip. Margaret River's unique combination of gravelly soils and ocean influence produces Cabernet Sauvignons known for their ability to balance power with elegance, making this a perfect example of the region's potential.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics to fully express themselves while maintaining the structured tannins that define its character. Decanting for 30-60 minutes will help integrate the oak and fruit elements, though the wine's fascinating evolution means it will continue to open beautifully in the glass over several hours. The bold tannin structure makes it perfect for pairing with rich, protein-heavy dishes that can match its intensity.

Ray Jordan is one of Australia's most respected wine critics, particularly renowned for his expertise in Western Australian wines including Margaret River. A 95-point score from Jordan indicates this Cabernet Sauvignon represents exceptional quality and typicity for the region. His ratings are particularly valuable for Margaret River wines as he understands the nuances of the region's terroir and consistently identifies wines with both immediate appeal and long-term ageing potential.

The oak in this Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrates masterful winemaking, where the vanilla and spice elements enhance rather than mask the fruit character. Quality oak integration is crucial for premium Cabernet Sauvignon as it provides structural support for the wine's tannins while adding complexity through subtle flavour compounds. The fact that the oak remains balanced with the fruit intensity suggests careful barrel selection and timing, allowing the wine's natural savouriness and umami qualities to shine through.

Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignons from quality producers typically peak between 8-15 years from vintage, meaning this 2019 has excellent cellaring potential until at least 2030-2035. The wine's bold tannin structure and integrated oak provide the backbone necessary for extended ageing, while the fruit concentration will evolve from primary berry flavours to more complex secondary and tertiary notes. Store in a cool, dark place at consistent temperature to allow the wine's intriguing complexity to develop further over time.
