Why do we love this wine?

This family is one of the oldest and most well-established in Coonawarra with a six-generation history in the wine industry going back many decades. A couple of generations later, the current family members pay homage to their late ancestors and their family legacy by producing wines of exceptional quality, that epitomise the Coonawarra style. Concentrated fruit, think blackberries, cassis and blackcurrants, present in front of a back drop of dark chocolate, aniseed and vanillin oak, there's structural acid, impeccable balance and beautiful tannins that open up a drinking window of 15-25 years. This is serious business.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine has received exceptional scores from multiple critics, including 98 points from both Winestate Magazine and Wine Orbit, reflecting its outstanding quality. The combination of Coonawarra's unique terra rossa soil and the producer's six-generation winemaking heritage creates wines with remarkable concentration and structure. The 2019 vintage showcases the region's ability to produce Cabernet Sauvignon with both power and elegance, earning recognition at prestigious wine shows including a Gold Medal at the National Cool Climate Wine Show.

This Cabernet Sauvignon has an impressive cellaring potential of 15-25 years from vintage, making it an excellent investment for collectors. The wine's structural acid, impeccable balance, and beautiful tannins provide the backbone necessary for long-term ageing. As it matures, the intense blackberry and cassis flavours will integrate further with the vanillin oak, while the tannins will soften to reveal greater complexity and tertiary characteristics typical of aged Coonawarra Cabernet.

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil over limestone creates ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with distinctive regional character. The cool climate allows for extended ripening periods, developing intense fruit concentration while maintaining natural acidity. This wine exemplifies the classic Coonawarra style with its combination of dark fruit intensity, structured tannins, and the region's signature eucalyptus and mint undertones that complement the chocolate and aniseed notes.

This rich, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with robust red meats, particularly aged beef steaks, lamb shanks, or game meats like venison. The wine's cocoa and vanilla notes complement dishes with earthy mushrooms or dark chocolate-based sauces, while its peppery characteristics enhance grilled meats with herb crusts. Strong aged cheeses like vintage cheddar or blue cheese also create excellent matches with the wine's concentrated fruit and structured tannins.

While this Cabernet Sauvignon is drinking beautifully now, showing excellent integration of fruit, oak, and tannins, it will continue to evolve and improve over the next two decades. The current drinking window allows you to enjoy the wine's youthful vigour and primary fruit characteristics, but patience will be rewarded as the tannins soften and secondary flavours develop. Consider opening one bottle now to appreciate its current state, while cellaring others for future enjoyment as the wine reaches its full potential.
