Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

In a word: gobsmacked. The critics agree, this is a masterfully crafted, elegant-yet-powerful (thanks to that slightly higher ABV), age worthy Cab. We can't get enough of it (literally, we bought everything we could get our hands on and it won't be enough). Varietal in all the right ways; long, herbed, a touch twiggy, a lot brambly. Where it steps outside the mould a little, though, is in the density of the fruit. It borrows somewhat from the powerful fruit profiles of Coonawarra, but it doesn't shed its Margaret River finesse in doing so. It's hard to overstate the brilliance of this wine; if I was walking away from this sale with one box of wine, it'd be this.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

At eight years of age, this wine has reached optimal drinking maturity while retaining excellent cellaring potential for decades to come. The 2016 vintage was exceptional in Margaret River, producing wines with perfect balance between power and elegance. Museum releases represent the pinnacle of a winery's production, showcasing how premium Cabernet Sauvignon develops complex secondary flavours like cedar and tobacco while maintaining its core blackcurrant fruit character.

Margaret River's maritime climate creates a unique style that combines the power of regions like Coonawarra with distinctive finesse and elegance. The region's gravelly soils and consistent sea breezes allow for extended ripening periods, developing complex herbal notes like tomato leaf alongside rich fruit flavours. This wine exemplifies that balance - it's powerful yet refined, avoiding the sometimes overwhelming intensity found in hotter Australian wine regions.

Serve at 16-18°C after decanting for 30-60 minutes to allow the wine's complex aromatics to fully express themselves. The textured, savoury profile pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, aged beef, or hard cheeses like aged cheddar. The cedar and herbal notes also complement dishes with rosemary, thyme, or other Mediterranean herbs, while the wine's structure can handle rich, sauce-based dishes.

Scores of 95-97 points from multiple respected critics indicate this wine sits in the top 1-2% of all wines reviewed globally. James Halliday's 97 points is particularly significant as he's Australia's most influential wine critic and rarely awards such high scores. When multiple critics independently rate a wine this highly, it demonstrates exceptional consistency in quality, complexity, and aging potential that justifies serious cellaring or special occasion consumption.

Premium Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon from exceptional vintages like 2016 can cellar for 15-25 years from vintage date. Currently at eight years old, this wine is entering its prime drinking window but will continue developing for another decade. The higher alcohol content mentioned in the description provides additional structure for long-term aging, while the wine's current balance of fruit and savoury elements suggests it will gracefully evolve into more complex tertiary flavours.
