Premium Reserve Coonawarra cabernet with serious intent. This isn't a wine that needs to announce itself - it just opens up and lets the fruit do the talking. And what fruit it is. Parcels selected from two of Coonawarra's most prized sites, before being blended into something genuinely compelling. That's not an accident or a wine of necessity - that's a commitment to getting it right.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Intense crimson in the glass, with blackberry, dark summer berry, mint and tobacco on the nose. The palate is dense and richly structured - dark fruits, raspberry, plum and dark chocolate rolling across a full-bodied frame with beautifully integrated oak and a long, balanced finish that just keeps building. This has 15 years of cellaring potential. It also drinks brilliantly right now with something worthy alongside it - think slow-roasted lamb or anything with deep, spiced flavours that can stand up to a serious red. Premium Coonawarra Cabernet made with genuine craft and patience. At this price, it's an outstanding opportunity.

Frequently Asked Questions

A museum release indicates this wine has been carefully cellared by the winery for optimal development before release. The 2014 vintage has had nearly a decade to evolve, allowing the tannins to soften and the complex flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate and tobacco to integrate beautifully. This extended ageing process is what transforms good Cabernet into exceptional wine, and explains why it's drinking so magnificently now while still having 15 years of cellaring potential ahead.

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil - a thin layer of red clay over limestone - creates perfect drainage while retaining enough moisture for the vines. This unique terroir, combined with the region's cool climate, allows Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly and develop the intense crimson colour and structured tannins evident in this Jack Estate wine. The limestone influence also contributes to the wine's natural acidity, which provides the backbone for its impressive 15-year ageing potential.

Serve this Cabernet at 16-18°C and decant it for at least an hour to allow the dense, richly structured palate to open up fully. The wine's intensity demands equally robust food pairings - the suggested slow-roasted lamb is perfect as the meat's richness complements the dark fruit flavours, while herbs like rosemary echo the wine's eucalyptus notes. Avoid delicate dishes that would be overwhelmed by this wine's powerful, full-bodied presence.

The 'Mythology' designation suggests this is Jack Estate's flagship Cabernet, crafted to legendary standards that honour both the varietal and the renowned Coonawarra region. Like mythological tales that endure through time, this wine is built for longevity with its dense structure and integrated oak. The name implies a wine of epic proportions - evident in its intense crimson colour, complex layering of dark fruits and spices, and the 'serious red' character that demands equally substantial food companions.

This paradox is the hallmark of expertly crafted Cabernet Sauvignon - the wine's beautifully integrated oak and balanced finish indicate the tannins are already harmonious enough for current enjoyment. However, the dense structure and full-bodied frame provide the foundation for continued evolution, where the dark chocolate and tobacco notes will become more pronounced while the fruit flavours develop tertiary complexity. This dual nature is what separates premium Coonawarra Cabernet from everyday wines.
