This wine is absolutely singing. 10 years has put this drop at its absolute peak right now. Don't cellar this any further, the tertiary notes are certainly present, the wine is soft and smooth with fine tannins and a long finish, there is still vibrancy though. A ridiculously good wine for the price.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Aged wine can be a bit divisive. What you gain in savoury complexity and smooth mouthfeel, you lose in brightness and fruit, or so we're told. Every now and again you come across a wine like this, an absolute score, the perfect balance of age and youth! We have no idea if this wine was any good upon release but frankly, who cares? It's drinking unbelievably right now. Soft and smooth with velvety tannins BUT vibrant and energetic with bright fruit and perky acid. Classic cab sav: blackcurrant/cassis, black olive, clove, plum and plenty of chocolate. Honestly this price is a bit silly on our part. Again, don't buy this to put it in the shed, get this straight into your regular rotation, it's got so much to give right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

At 10 years of age, this Barossa Cabernet has reached that sweet spot where primary fruit flavours have evolved into complex savoury notes without losing their vibrancy. The tannins have softened to a velvety texture while maintaining the wine's structural integrity. This timing is crucial for Cabernet Sauvignon, as it typically needs 8-12 years to fully integrate its components and develop the leather and chocolate characteristics now present.

The Barossa's warm continental climate and diverse soil types create perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon to develop intense blackcurrant and cassis flavours. The region's old vine heritage and traditional winemaking techniques contribute to the full-bodied style and complex flavour profile. The valley's ability to produce wines that age gracefully for decades is evidenced by this 2014's current drinking perfection and museum release status.

The exceptional scores of 95 points from Wine Orbit and 94 points from Ray Jordan indicate this is among Australia's finest Cabernet Sauvignons. These ratings, combined with its museum release designation, suggest the wine has developed remarkable complexity and balance over its decade of ageing. Such high scores from respected critics validate the wine's perfect integration of fruit, tannins, and oak.

The wine's rich blackcurrant and dark chocolate notes, combined with leather undertones and velvety tannins, make it ideal for red meat dishes like aged beef steaks or lamb shanks. The black olive characteristics complement Mediterranean flavours, while the chocolate notes pair beautifully with game meats or strong cheeses. The wine's full body and smooth texture can stand up to robust, flavourful dishes without being overwhelmed.

This wine is drinking at its absolute peak right now and should be enjoyed immediately rather than cellared further. After 10 years of ageing, it has achieved the perfect balance between youthful fruit energy and mature complexity that the description highlights. While it may continue to evolve, it's currently offering maximum pleasure with its vibrant fruit, smooth tannins, and integrated flavours all in harmony.
