Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Wine regions are a funny thing; kick a footy from 'Coonawarra' and you could land it in 'Limestone Coast', but a wine (or footy) baring the 'Coonawarra' label will go for twice the price - go figure! Yes, we understand it's a bit more complex than that, but technicalities aside, our point is that the value to be found here is staggering. Take this delicious cabernet from a rock-solid producer, with plenty of experience on either side of the 'footy kick divide'. At this price, your mind is getting blown. It’s got the trademark florality of your classic Coonawarra cabs, although we’re talking more intense black forest fruits and pepper rather than your typical violets and berries. If you're anything like us, you'll be astounded at the value here.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine demonstrates how regional boundaries can create pricing opportunities for savvy buyers. While technically from the broader Limestone Coast region, it's crafted by a producer with deep expertise in premium Coonawarra fruit, delivering the same quality characteristics at a fraction of the price. The 2014 vintage has had a decade to develop complexity, showing intense black forest fruits and pepper spice that rival wines costing twice as much.

At nearly ten years of age, this Cabernet Sauvignon has reached an ideal drinking window where primary fruit flavours have evolved into more complex secondary characteristics. The blackcurrant notes have deepened, while the cigarbox and leather elements have emerged through bottle ageing. This maturation process has softened the tannins while maintaining the wine's full-bodied structure, creating a perfectly balanced drinking experience.

Limestone Coast's unique terra rossa soils over limestone bedrock create ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with exceptional colour intensity and structured tannins. The cool maritime climate extends the growing season, allowing grapes to develop complex flavour compounds while retaining natural acidity. This combination results in wines that display both power and elegance, with the characteristic florality and spice that distinguish South Australian Cabernet from warmer regions.

The wine's rich blackcurrant fruit, leather undertones, and full-bodied structure make it perfect for robust red meat dishes like grilled ribeye or slow-braised lamb shanks. The cigarbox notes complement aged cheeses beautifully, while the wine's maturity and complexity can stand up to game meats or rich mushroom dishes. The developed tannins won't overpower the food, instead providing a structured backbone that enhances umami-rich flavours.

Dual 94-point scores from both Wine Pilot and Wine Orbit indicate exceptional quality that places this wine in the top tier of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. These ratings reflect the wine's complexity, balance, and ageing potential, with critics recognising the seamless integration of fruit, oak, and tannins. The Museum Release designation further confirms this is a wine of serious pedigree, worthy of cellaring and special occasions.
