Elegance exemplified. With just over 10 years in the rear-view mirror, this beautiful cabernet has found itself right in the 'goldilocks zone', not too young, not too old, juuuuust right.

Why do we love this wine?

Margaret River rarely has a challenging vintage but the 2013 stands among the best of the last 15 years. Beautifully balanced, wonderfully vibrant and patiently matured, this is a really special drop. Both the bouquet and the palate are chocka-block-full of cassis, blackberry, bay leaf and countless other herbs. Fine-grained tannins and a vibrant acidic structure close out proceedings and push through for a lingering finish with discernible hints of sweet oak. A classy wine with a beautiful mouthfeel and exemplary fruit concentration. You won't be disappointed.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2013 vintage stands among Margaret River's finest in the last 15 years due to ideal growing conditions that produced perfectly balanced fruit. Margaret River's Mediterranean climate rarely produces challenging vintages, but 2013 was particularly special with optimal rainfall timing and warm, dry ripening conditions. This allowed the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to develop intense flavour concentration while maintaining the region's signature elegance and natural acidity.

The wine's textured, savoury profile with cassis and blackberry flavours pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with herb crusts that echo the wine's bay leaf notes. The fine-grained tannins and sweet oak hints also complement aged cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. The tobacco and toast characteristics make it an excellent match for barbecued meats or dishes with smoky elements.

With its vibrant acidic structure and fine-grained tannins, this wine has excellent cellaring potential for another 8-12 years from now. The 95-point Halliday rating indicates exceptional quality that will continue to develop complexity. Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignons are known for their longevity, and the patiently matured fruit in this vintage suggests it will gracefully evolve, with the oak integration becoming more seamless over time.

Margaret River produces Cabernet Sauvignon with a unique combination of power and elegance, influenced by its maritime climate and gravelly soils. Unlike the more robust styles from Barossa or Coonawarra, Margaret River Cabernets typically show more herbaceous complexity with bay leaf and mint notes. The region's consistent vintage quality and natural acidity create wines that are both approachable young and capable of extended cellaring, as demonstrated by this beautifully balanced 2013.

These flavours suggest careful oak maturation, likely in French oak barrels that have imparted vanilla and spice notes while allowing the fruit to integrate harmoniously. The tobacco notes often develop from extended bottle ageing and indicate the wine's maturity and complexity. The toffee characteristics come from the interaction between the wine's natural fruit sugars and oak compounds, while the toast flavours suggest some barrels may have been lightly charred, adding subtle smoky nuances to complement the wine's savoury profile.
