A Bordeaux blend that bypasses overly savoury, woody, vegetal notes and instead offers an abundance of red and black fruit and rich earth.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Cabernet dominant with merlot and petit verdot rounding it out. The blend is classically Old World to be sure, but the wine itself offers something distinctly New World: and ample amount of backbone. The richness of the fruit is delightfully hedonistic and satisfying, giving the wine punch and weight from start to finish. Blackcurrant, cassis, spice, vanillin, oak - there is an awful lot to tuck into here, so don't let us keep you: tuck in.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine uniquely bridges Old World and New World styles, combining classical European blending traditions with distinctly Australian backbone and intensity. The Margaret River region's maritime climate allows Cabernet Sauvignon to develop complex cassis and blackcurrant flavours while maintaining elegant structure. The addition of Merlot softens the tannins and adds plushness, while Petit Verdot contributes colour depth and spicy complexity that's become a signature of premium Margaret River blends.

The consistently high scores across multiple platforms - 95pts from The Real Review, 94pts from James Halliday, and 4.1 on Vivino - demonstrate exceptional quality and broad appeal. James Halliday's rating is particularly significant as he's Australia's most respected wine critic, while the Five Red Star winery rating indicates the producer is among Australia's elite. The Vivino score reflects real consumer satisfaction, showing this wine delivers on both critical acclaim and drinking pleasure.

The wine's rich fruit concentration and oak integration make it perfect for robust dishes that can match its intensity. Think grilled ribeye or lamb with rosemary, where the cedar and spicebox notes complement herb crusts beautifully. The raspberry undertones also pair surprisingly well with duck breast or venison, while the wine's structure can handle rich cheese platters featuring aged cheddar or blue cheese.

While this wine is drinking beautifully now with its hedonistic fruit richness and integrated oak, Margaret River Cabernet blends from quality producers typically have 10-15 year cellaring potential. The 2018 vintage benefited from excellent growing conditions, and the wine's full-bodied structure suggests it will develop additional complexity with age. You can enjoy it immediately for its vibrant fruit character or cellar it to allow the tannins to soften and secondary flavours to emerge.

Black Market Deals typically represent exceptional value wines from premium producers who prefer to remain anonymous, often due to existing retail relationships or brand positioning strategies. This allows wine lovers to access high-quality drops at significantly reduced prices while the winery maintains their regular pricing structure. The impressive critic scores and Margaret River provenance suggest this is likely from a well-regarded estate offering their wine at a fraction of its usual retail price.
