Yep, this is what Aussie grenache blends are all about. Depth of flavour, palate weight, silky mouthfeel and bursting with ripe, juicy fruits. A simply gorgeous wine for pretty much any time of night (or day) - no judgement here.

Why do we love this wine?

Some things are just meant to be together: Vegemite and cheese; bacon and eggs; grenache, shiraz and mataro. There's a reason winemakers have been blending these grapes for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Grenache brings juicy, jubey fruit and a smooth, silky mouthfeel. Shiraz brings spice, palate weight and a bit of grunt (this is Australia after all). Mataro (or mourvédre) brings a savoury earthiness, beautiful aromatics and structural acid. After months of painstaking blending and many, many taste tests, we get this wonderful little drop: A complex and complete wine that's soft enough for pinot drinkers and gutsy enough for old school shiraz drinkers. If you like energetic, vibrant wines, drink it young. If you like savoury, brooding wines, wait 5 years. The choice is yours!

Wine Orbit

Complex and richly expressed, the fragrant bouquet shows dark plum, sweet cherry, dried herb, cured meat and toasted nut characters with a gorgeous spicy overtone. It's wonderfully weighted and plush in the mouth, delivering fleshy texture and finely infused tannins, finishing superbly long and harmonious. At its best: now to 2034. - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Frequently Asked Questions

GSM blends represent one of winemaking's most harmonious marriages, combining grenache's juicy fruit and silky texture with shiraz's spice and weight, plus mataro's savoury earthiness and structural backbone. This trio has been perfected over centuries, particularly thriving in Australia's warm climate regions like the Barossa Valley. The blend creates a wine that's both approachable for lighter red wine drinkers yet satisfying enough for those who prefer bolder styles, making it incredibly versatile for different palates.

This GSM offers two distinct drinking experiences depending on your preference and patience. If you enjoy bright, energetic wines with prominent fruit flavours like blackberry and raspberry, drink it within the next 2-3 years while it's young and vibrant. However, if you prefer more complex, savoury characteristics with developed earthiness and integrated tannins, cellar it for 5 years to allow the mataro component to fully express its brooding, contemplative nature.

A 95-point rating from Wine Orbit places this GSM in exceptional territory, indicating outstanding quality that significantly exceeds expectations for its price point. This score, combined with both 'Mofo Fave' and 'Staff Pick' designations, suggests the wine demonstrates remarkable balance, complexity, and regional expression. Such high ratings for a GSM blend highlight Atlas Wines' skill in crafting a wine that showcases the best characteristics of each varietal while creating something greater than the sum of its parts.

The Barossa Valley's warm, dry climate and diverse soil types create perfect conditions for GSM varieties to ripen fully while maintaining natural acidity. Grenache thrives in the valley's heat, developing concentrated fruit flavours, while shiraz gains the spice and structure that made Barossa famous. Mataro benefits from the region's ability to preserve aromatics and develop the earthy, savoury complexity that gives GSM blends their distinctive character and ageing potential.

This wine's medium body and flavour profile of blackberry, raspberry, and spice make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines that complement the blend's heritage. The grenache's fruit pairs beautifully with lamb and game meats, while the shiraz component handles grilled vegetables and herb-crusted dishes. The mataro's earthiness makes it excellent with mushroom-based dishes, aged cheeses, and slow-cooked stews where the wine's savoury elements can shine alongside rich, complex flavours.
