Why do we love this wine?

This is in beautiful nick. A little bit of cellar time has allowed the complexity of the wine to come to the fore. A mix of fresh berries, leather, spice and cedar lead out. The core of the wine is densely laden with briary fruits - rich and powerful throughout. This is balanced, harmonious and, above all, long. The finish goes on seemingly forever. An outstanding wine through and through.

Frequently Asked Questions

The seven years of bottle age have allowed this Barossa Shiraz to develop remarkable complexity, with the initial fruit power integrating beautifully with secondary flavours of leather and cedar. This maturation period is ideal for full-bodied Shiraz, as it softens tannins while enhancing the wine's natural spice and earthy characteristics. The extended finish mentioned in tasting notes is a hallmark of properly aged premium Shiraz.

Barossa Valley's warm climate and ancient soils produce Shiraz with exceptional concentration and power, evident in this wine's dense briary fruit core. The region's old vine Shiraz blocks contribute to the complexity you taste here - those sage and clove notes are classic Barossa signatures. This terroir consistently produces wines that balance richness with elegance, explaining why this example earned 96 points from James Halliday.

Serve at 16-18°C to showcase the wine's complex aromatics of fresh berries, spice, and cedar without overwhelming the palate. Decant for 30-60 minutes to allow the dense fruit flavours to open up fully and integrate with the leather and spice notes. The wine's powerful structure and long finish make it perfect for rich dishes like braised lamb, aged beef, or strong cheeses.

A 96-point score from James Halliday represents exceptional quality - wines in this range are considered outstanding examples of their style and region. Combined with the Five Star Winery rating, this indicates consistent excellence from the producer. The 4.4 Vivino rating across all vintages confirms that wine lovers consistently appreciate this producer's style and quality standards.

While already drinking beautifully with its current complexity and balance, this full-bodied Barossa Shiraz has the structure to evolve further over the next 5-8 years. The dense fruit core and harmonious tannins suggest it will develop more tertiary flavours like tobacco and earth while maintaining its powerful character. However, given its current peak drinking condition and that seemingly endless finish, there's no need to wait to enjoy it.
