Such fine-grained tannin, such even-handed fruit, such a lengthy finish. This is a beautiful Black Label cabernet, elegantly medium-bodied, blessed with blackcurrant, forest berry, cool mint and cedar characters, and tempered by tobacco-like leaf notes. This will be a gorgeous drink with a few extra years on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil - a thin strip of red earth over limestone - creates ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. This unique terroir produces wines with exceptional structure and the distinctive eucalyptus notes found in this Wynns Black Label. The cool climate allows for slow ripening, developing complex flavours while maintaining natural acidity that gives the wine its remarkable aging potential.

With its firm tannin structure and full-bodied profile, this Wynns Black Label has excellent cellaring potential of 15-20 years. The 2021 vintage benefits from Coonawarra's consistent growing conditions, and the wine's current youth means it will continue developing complexity. The oak integration will soften over time, allowing the blackcurrant and plum flavours to become more pronounced and harmonious.

The exceptional ratings from Andrew Caillard (97pts), Ken Gargett (96pts), and James Halliday (96pts) reflect the wine's perfect balance of power and elegance. Critics particularly praised the 2021 vintage for its intense fruit concentration, seamless oak integration, and the way it captures Coonawarra's signature characteristics. The consistent high scores across multiple respected critics indicate this is an outstanding expression of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.

This wine's robust tannins and rich fruit flavours make it perfect for red meat dishes like grilled lamb with rosemary or aged beef steaks. The eucalyptus notes complement herb-crusted roasts beautifully, while the wine's structure can handle rich, flavourful cheeses like aged cheddar. The oaky elements also pair wonderfully with barbecued meats, making it ideal for Australian outdoor dining.

Yes, decanting will significantly enhance your experience with this young, full-bodied Cabernet. The 2021 vintage benefits from 1-2 hours of aeration to soften the firm tannins and allow the complex aromatics to fully develop. Decanting helps integrate the oak with the fruit flavours and reveals the wine's true depth, showcasing why it earned such prestigious ratings from leading wine critics.
