We're not overstating it when we say that this winemaker is genuinely one of the greatest producers in Australia (if not the world) - yep, seriously. They're responsible for some of the most esteemed wines that this country has to offer and are actually attributed with pioneering "Single-Vineyard" wines in this country. Strikingly perfumed, infinitely complex and downright delicious. This is one for srious collectors and serious shiraz lovers - this'll make your mates jealous.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

The second you get a whiff of this stunningly made wine - it's absolute fireworks. Think black cherry, blueberry and tangy currant all tangled up with crushed rose petal, peppercorn and olive tapenade. There’s even that classic McLaren Vale smoky-meaty thing - just another layer of complexity. It’s seductive, savoury, and utterly impossible to ignore. Then the palate hits - taut, focused, and built like a brick you-know-what. Crunchy acidity, fine talc-like tannins, and a slow build of dark fruit, French oak and spice that keeps unravelling layer after layer. It’s got muscle, sure, but it’s no brute. To use the cliche, this is an iron fist in a velvet glove - power, polish, and serious cellar potential. To drink now, decant it and pair it with a fat steak or roast lamb and you’ll be grinning. Or, if you’ve got patience (and a strong will), stash it 'til 2092 and watch it morph into something truffly, earthy and deeply complex. Completely breathtaking.

Frequently Asked Questions

This 2014 Liandra Shiraz sits at a beautiful drinking window where it's showing gorgeous integration of fruit and oak, yet retains the structural backbone for decades of cellaring. At ten years old, the wine has developed that classic McLaren Vale smoky-meaty character while maintaining vibrant fruit expression. If drinking now, decanting will unlock its full potential, but patient collectors can cellar this until 2092 as the tannins soften and tertiary flavours of truffle and earth emerge.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils create Shiraz with a distinctive smoky-meaty character that's evident in this Liandra bottling. The region's warm days and cool sea breezes from nearby Gulf St Vincent help retain acidity while developing intense fruit concentration. This terroir contributes to the wine's complex interplay of dark fruits, olive tapenade notes, and that signature regional earthiness that distinguishes McLaren Vale Shiraz from other Australian regions.

This classic wine descriptor perfectly captures how Clarendon Hills has balanced power with elegance in their Liandra Shiraz. The 'iron fist' refers to the wine's substantial tannin structure and concentrated fruit that gives it serious cellaring potential and food-pairing versatility. The 'velvet glove' describes how these powerful elements are seamlessly integrated with fine, talc-like tannins and polished oak treatment, creating a wine that's muscular yet refined rather than aggressive or overwhelming.

Vivino's 4.2 rating represents consumer scores across all vintages of Liandra Shiraz, giving you insight into the wine's consistent quality and appeal over time. Halliday's Top 100 Producer listings for 2024 and 2025 recognise Clarendon Hills' overall winemaking excellence rather than this specific vintage, indicating the producer's sustained commitment to quality. Robert Parker's 'Outstanding' rating likely refers to this specific 2014 vintage, reflecting professional assessment of this particular wine's merit.

The wine's savoury elements like olive tapenade, peppercorn, and smoky-meaty notes make it exceptional with rich, umami-driven dishes. Classic pairings include grilled lamb with rosemary, aged beef steaks, or game meats that echo the wine's earthy complexity. The crushed rose petal aromatics and fine tannin structure also work beautifully with duck confit or mushroom-based dishes, while the wine's acidity cuts through rich, fatty preparations without being overwhelmed.
