2x Geoff Hardy Shiraz 2020
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
There would likely be few people who haven’t heard the Hardy name around, with a legacy going all the way back to the 1850s with the planting of some of South Australia’s first vines. So, when it comes to Geoff Hardy, great-great grandson of Thomas Hardy, it’s fair to say that skill and passion for the wine industry run in his blood. I sat with Geoff to taste this wine amidst the autumn leaves falling from the trees into the lake at his Kuitpo winery, and there was a resonance with this label itself. The wine was impressive, although Geoff’s humble attitude wouldn’t let you know that. It’s hard to put a price on a wine like this, and it’ll be the last thing you’re thinking about when you pour out the last drops from the bottle.
You’d pay $45 full price.

2x Bodegas Altanza Capitoso Rioja 2020
Red — Tempranillo
Rioja DOC — Spain
Did someone ask where the party was at? Well Mofo, we can say that it’s right here. Presenting ‘Capitoso’, the rogue young player here to set the night alight with fun like you’ve never known from a Rioja wine. Sure, there’s still a bit of barrel time in French oak, but mostly it’s just about pure, enthusiastic fruit expression. Cherries and chocolate mingle with redcurrant and raspberries all bound by a dazzling mineral finish. Now, that’s a party.
You’d pay $28 full price.

2x Reschke Reserve Shiraz 2020
Red — Shiraz
Limestone Coast — Australia
South Australia’s Limestone Coast is not quite as famous as a few neighbouring regions, and as a result the value to be found there is staggering. Take this delicious shiraz from a rock solid mofo fave producer. Its got beautiful intensity, with ripe raspberry highlights on the nose, and a velvety-smooth palate. Add in some earthiness and black fruits, plus a few seeds of vanilla bean and you’ll see why we are impressed. It’s a hearty wine for celebrating life, effortlessly matching to all kinds of winter fare and not having to think twice as you crack open your second bottle.
You’d pay $25 full price.

2x Vintage Longbottom H McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
Classic McLaren Vale blueberry brightness. Juicy and ripe but with a cooler, more focused dark fruit profile. Mulberries, plums, violets abound - the aromatic profile is tightly bound to freshness and richness. A bit of tannic structure gives the wine length and a fullness on the palate, but it remains shapely and plush. A satisfying McLaren Vale shiraz that speaks loudly and proudly of the region.
You’d pay $28 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x Tabali Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Chile — Chile
This is Tabalí’s Reserva cabernet, sourced from the Dom vineyard in Maipo Valley. For those in the know, it isn’t news that Chile provides some of the best bang for your buck cabernet anywhere in the world. The complexity, balance and length found in the price of a weeknight quaffer is unrivalled. This has lifted blackberry and blackcurrant, buttressed by some sneaky spicy notes and chalky fine tannins. You’d be hard pressed to find this wines compete at this price no matter where you look.
You’d pay $30 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x Thistledown Wild & Wilder 'The Unforgettable' GSM 2022
Red — GSM
South Australia — Australia
GSM - the ‘Holy Trinity’ of South Aussie reds. It’s the simple, but pleasing harmony of the blend that is nearly better than the sum of its parts. This is a ripe and succulent red that shows off the best of all three varieties. Grenache brings red berries, plums and a bit of warmth. Shiraz adds spice and acid. And then mataro contributes a wonderfully floral nose and its famous inky colour. This is a solid and tasty version of the blend, sure to please fans of the style
You’d pay $22 full price.
