1x Mitolo Savitar Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
Wonderfully textured, the wine is built around a long mineral acidity which carries intensity through the palate. White pepper, cedar and elegant allspice notes linger throughout the lengthy, linear finish. Matured for 20 months in 85% new French, 5% New American and 10% Seasoned French Oak hogshead barrels - drink it now or dig a hole in your backyard and forget about it. You could age this one for 15 years if you wanted but we're willing to bet you won't be able to keep your hands off it for that long!
You’d pay $105 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz 2017
Red — Shiraz
Pyrenees — Australia
It's hard to justify even writing this tasting note, as it'll all be sold out by them time anyone gets a chance to read it. In any case, the wine: blueberries and black cherries over vanilla, eucalypt, and sweet spice. Liquorice and fruit compote follow neatly, deftly behind the initial fruit burst. Among many things, this wine is further proof of the superiority of the stelvin closure as opposed to cork for ageing cool climate reds. This is wine made with the cellar in mind. It is just now hitting its stride, and what a stride it is. The fruit is remarkably fresh, but no aged characteristics like leather, wet earth and game have been sacrificed whatsoever. The density of the fruit is framed by maturity without being swamped by it, and the wine is able to hold its form through a lasting finish. This is truly a deal to jump at, and one you won't see again.
You’d pay $96 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Tyrrell's Stevens Single Vineyard Shiraz 2023
Red — Shiraz
Hunter Valley — Australia
When Stevens Vineyard shiraz earns 95 points, you're dealing with Hunter Valley at its absolute best. The vintage conditions were near perfect. Abundant spring rain provided great soil moisture heading into the dry summer months, while the harvest period was stress-free without adverse conditions. And here's the result - an exceptional Hunter Valley vintage that produced well-balanced, complex wines with remarkable fruit purity. Hand harvested on 20 February at the coldest part of the day, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks before nine months maturation in a single four-year-old French oak cask, then five more months in puncheons. The winemaking respects both the fruit and the vineyard's reputation. Huon Hooke awarded this 95 points, calling it "outstanding wine" with "intensity, concentration and drive, but not at the expense of elegance." Bright red with purple hues, sweet red fruit aromatics highlighted with cranberry, velvety tannins coating the palate with directional dark cherry and a clean, neat finish.
You’d pay $60 full price.

1x Brokenwood Hunter Valley Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Hunter Valley — Australia
This is Hunter Valley shiraz in its base form. If anyone does a good Hunter shiraz (and they do), it's Brokenwood. Medium-to-full-bodied, savoury-leaning and built on balance rather than brute force - exactly how the region likes it. It’s drinking beautifully now, but there’s no rush. Give it time and it’ll reward you with even more nuance and polish. A top vintage, serious vineyard credentials and a shiny gold medal to back it up - this is proper Hunter shiraz for people who actually like Hunter shiraz. Perfect with duck, veal, or a good wedge of cheese and zero distractions.
You’d pay $55 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Yelland & Papps Single Vineyard Greenock Shiraz 2023
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
This is Barossa shiraz with brains as well as brawn - nothing overdone, just flavour that feels both powerful and controlled. Smoothness, complexity and depth all wrapped up in a velvety package. There’s opulence, fruit weight, fine tannins and a hell of a long finish on this one. Halliday’s already dropped 95 points on it - we’ll just say it straight: this is utterly delicious. Classic single vineyard Barossa shiraz made from old vines on the western ridge of the valley. Plum, mulberry and clove jump out of the glass upon first whiff. The palate expands even further with vanilla, liquorice, dark chocolate and graphite. The mix of seasoned American and French oak in the maturation has given rise to a mix of sweet spices, vanilla bean and roasted coffee notes that accentuate the high-toned fragrance of the already beautiful shiraz fruit from some seriously kick ass growers. Shiraz lovers, eat your heart out.
You’d pay $53 full price.

1x Head Wines 'The Contrarian' Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
This isn't your over-ripe, over-jammy Barossa bruiser. This fabulous winemaker deliberately sources fruit from granite-based vineyards, right on the border of Eden and Barossa, that ripen at lower alcohols, then adds serious whole-bunch fermentation for a spicier, more dialled-in shiraz. 95 points from Halliday and a raft of shout-outs from the big reviewers prove that sometimes being contrary pays off spectacularly.
You’d pay $40 full price.
