We all know the expression about dangling a carrot in front of someone. But what if this entire case of wine is ‘carrots’ so to speak? We’re talking about d’Arenberg after all, a star-studded McLaren Vale producer

Why do we love this case?

All you can really do is dangle an even bigger carrot. So that’s what we did. You’ll get 5 bottles of The Wild Pixie shiraz, probably enough reason in itself to grab a case. But why stop there? We’ve added the ultimate carrot, a bottle of The Ironstone Pressings GSM, which is nothing short of a showstopper. All carrots, no sticks...that’s how we roll.

Red — GSM

McLaren Vale — Australia

If you ask us, GSM blends are where the truly great stuff is at. The precision to which this wine comes together is something to gawk at, especially when you consider the fantastic producers who call this wine their own. There’s notable care taken to produce this wine from vine to bottle. Parcels are kept separate for quality control until they’re about to make it to bottling. Good ol’ foot-treading and basket pressing gives this wine rustic power from the extraction of all the morsels of goodness. There’s a light side from the floral bouquet, awash with notes of orange, mulberry, and redcurrant. But then the palate delivers the power and ageing potential that you really crave- one of those moments you can savour forever. Or, at least until the bottle’s gone.

You'd pay $78 full price.

5x d'Arenberg The Wild Pixie Shiraz 2019

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

A tried and true Mofo fav. We love this wine for many reasons, but most of all it’s the way it jumps out of the glass. A potent elixir of vibrant red cherries and blue plums. A swirl of raspberry and liquorice. Dusky, earthy savouriness and piney cedar wood chime in late and usher the fruit along. Its one of those wines you’re reluctant to drink because there is so much joy to be had in just smelling it. On the palate herbaceous black currant leaf and herbal tea flank what is a powerful fruit core. Dark berry compote and quince dominate. Fresh and bright acidity (aided, in part, by the splash of roussanne that’s added to the ferment) gather and drive the fruit density through a long, lasting finish. As far as the Wild Pixie is concerned, this is the best incarnation yet.

You'd pay $32 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is d'Arenberg's premium GSM blend that has earned exceptional critical acclaim, including 96 points from James Suckling and 95 points from The Real Review. GSM blends (Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre) are a McLaren Vale specialty, combining the bright fruit of Grenache with Shiraz's power and Mourvèdre's earthy complexity. The 'Ironstone Pressings' name refers to the iron-rich soils of McLaren Vale that impart distinctive mineral characteristics to the wine.

This upgrade case strategically pairs a premium showstopper wine with multiple bottles of excellent everyday drinking. You receive five bottles of The Wild Pixie Shiraz alongside the coveted Ironstone Pressings GSM, creating a collection that spans different price points and occasions. This approach allows wine lovers to experience d'Arenberg's range whilst securing a highly-rated premium bottle that would typically command a much higher individual price.

The rich, full-bodied profile with notes of plum, black cherry, and spice makes these wines perfect for hearty dishes like slow-cooked lamb, beef bourguignon, or aged hard cheeses. The black olive and earthy characteristics particularly complement Mediterranean cuisine, whilst the spice elements pair beautifully with barbecued meats - a natural match for McLaren Vale's warm climate wines. These wines have the structure to stand up to bold flavours without being overwhelmed.

d'Arenberg has earned Icon Producer recognition through decades of innovative winemaking and consistent quality across their extensive range. Founded in 1912, they're known for their unconventional approach, including the famous Cube cellar door and unique wine names that reflect their creative philosophy. Their McLaren Vale vineyards benefit from the region's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils, allowing them to produce everything from approachable everyday wines to premium collectors' pieces like The Ironstone Pressings.

The Wild Pixie Shiraz from 2019 is drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop over the next 5-8 years, whilst The Ironstone Pressings GSM 2018 represents a more serious cellaring proposition with potential to evolve gracefully for 10-15 years. McLaren Vale's warm climate produces wines with generous fruit that's approachable young, but the full-bodied structure and quality evident in these high ratings suggests they'll reward patience with increased complexity and integration.
