Why do we love this case?

It’s not often you get to taste the absolute cream of the crop straight off the bat, but when we we’re looking to import a boatful of brilliance, we don’t do half measures. These three beauties from cult wineries are spoken about in hushed fervour even back home in South Africa, let alone overseas where they’re even rarer. They’re yours to enjoy, mofo, and enjoy them you will!

2x David & Nadia Chenin Blanc 2021

White — Chenin Blanc

Swartland — South Africa

David & Nadia are two new age winemakers who are making waves across the world. Pretty impressive considering the (very) small volumes they make, each bottle as pristine as the next. This is one of my favourite wines. Period. It's incredibly nuanced, and not in a way that is at all unapproachable- just complete and bursting with character. Not only do David & Nadia produce incredible wines, they follow organic and ecological farming practises and minimal intervention in the winery, which ensures their wines reflect their land. Spending a year in old oak, this chenin blanc is complex, well-structured and displays fleshy deliciousness with each sip. With a fresh palate of tropical fruits, citrus and all spice, this white beauty has a long and minerally finish.

You'd pay $90 full price.

2x Rall White 2021

White — White Blend

Swartland — South Africa

Rall doesn’t make much wine, but what he does turn out is flabbergasting. This is one of the best white blends of the Southern Hemisphere. It's a big call, but we're sure we could find more than a few wine professionals who would agree. This is blend of chenin blanc, verdelho and viognier, perfectly weighted to complement each other and bring out the best qualities of each. Sizzling with complexity and shimmering with vibrance, it’s little wonder these Rall wines have built a ferociously dedicated cult following over the years.

You'd pay $85 full price.

2x Lourens Family Wines Lindi Carien 2020

White — White Blend

South Africa — South Africa

Named after Franco Louren's wife Lindi, this white blend of chenin, verdelho and grenache blanc, is all hand harvested, fermented separately, and then sent to large format French oak for nine months. The nose elicits aromas of pear, nectarine, orange and lemon, along with a bit of herbal tones and flintiness. The citrus-driven palate has a creamy texture, a feel of wet stone and fine acidity on the finish. This is a prime example of why South Africa is so renowned for its white blends.

You'd pay $70 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

This selection features three cult producers that are revered even within South Africa's competitive wine scene - David & Nadia, Rall, and Lourens Family Wines. These aren't your typical commercial offerings; they represent the pinnacle of South African white winemaking with exceptional ratings including 96 points from Christian Eedes and 95 points from Tim Atkin MW. The combination of old vine fruit, organic practices, and textural winemaking techniques creates wines that showcase the unique terroir of South Africa's diverse wine regions.

South African whites offer a distinctive middle ground between Old World minerality and New World fruit expression, particularly evident in this selection's citrus, melon, and mineral profile. The country's diverse climate zones and ancient soils produce whites with remarkable complexity and age-worthiness that rivals Burgundy's texture while maintaining the vibrant acidity found in cool-climate regions like Loire Valley. These particular wines showcase South Africa's ability to produce world-class whites that stand confidently alongside the globe's most celebrated regions.

The textural, medium-bodied nature of these wines makes them incredibly versatile for food pairing, particularly with dishes that can handle both the citrus brightness and mineral complexity. Think grilled seafood with herb butter, roasted chicken with lemon and thyme, or creamy pasta dishes with seasonal vegetables. The allspice notes in the blend also complement Asian fusion cuisine beautifully, while the minerality pairs excellently with fresh oysters or goat cheese-based dishes.

Absolutely - cult producers like these typically craft their whites for longevity, and the old vine fruit and organic practices suggest these wines have excellent aging potential. The textural style and mineral backbone provide the structure needed for graceful evolution over 5-10 years, during which the citrus notes will integrate further and develop more complex honeyed and nutty characteristics. The high critic scores (94-96 points) also indicate wines built for the long term rather than immediate consumption.

This collection represents the new wave of South African winemaking that emphasises minimal intervention and terroir expression, evident from the organic certification and old vine designations. The textural style suggests techniques like lees stirring, partial malolactic fermentation, or skin contact that create complexity beyond simple fruit flavours. These cult producers are known for pushing boundaries while respecting traditional methods, resulting in wines that capture both the innovative spirit of modern South Africa and the timeless appeal of classic white winemaking.
