Talk about bang for your buck... Adelaide Hills pinot noir with real richness and real intent. From a producer that clearly cares about what ends up in the bottle. This is a seriously fun little wine. Bright ruby in the glass, with a nose that's far more complex and layered than it has any right to be at this price point - red cherry, dark cherry, rose petal, violet and a spicy oak integration that gives it a depth and warmth that draws you straight in. The palate is the real surprise. Silky, concentrated and genuinely plush, with fresh red cherry fruit and fine tannins running deep along a central spine that carries the whole thing through to a long, elegant, spice-laced finish.

Sorby Adams does things properly. Always has. And this pinot noir is a perfect example of what happens when a boutique producer with serious winemaking pedigree turns their attention to one of the world's most demanding varieties. This is pinot that doesn't ask much of you. Just a glass, maybe some good food alongside it and a big smile! Bright, vibrant and completely inviting from the first pour - cherry, strawberry and raspberry at the core, with a savoury earthiness and a lick of spice that gives it a complexity well beyond what most wines at this price deliver. The texture is silky and supple, the tannins are fine and seamlessly integrated, and the finish is clean and satisfying in a way that makes the next glass feel completely inevitable. Drinks beautifully right now and has another few years of easy, pleasurable drinking ahead of it. Smart, well-crafted cool-climate pinot from one of our favourite boutique producers. Grab a few. Every year, this producer goes hunting for the finest fruit in the country. No fixed address, no postcode loyalty - just an obsessive pursuit of quality wherever the vintage is delivering it best. In 2017, the Yarra Valley called. And the Pinot Noir practically demanded to be made. So here we are with a delicious little aged Pinot - how good! Classic Yarra Pinot. Plump cherries, ripe strawberries and a lovely earthy, leafy quality on the nose - lifted by subtle spice that gives it a savoury depth and complexity beyond its light-footed frame. The palate is bright and lively, with juicy red fruit, soft supportive tannins and a long, herb-flecked finish that keeps revealing itself long after the glass is empty.

Geelong — Australia
Geelong is, for me, the best pinot noir producing region outside of Burgundy. Not the USA's Oregon, not New Zealand's Central Otago - little old Geelong on Victoria's south coast. Fresh and inviting, this will give a lot with just a little swirl in the glass. Raspberry coulis, winter strawberry, some sweet spice, fennel, thistle. The complexity far outpaces its price tag. The wine is structured without sacrificing finesse, which means it's pretty without being thin or wussy. This is dangerous value at this price and worth stocking up because we don't anticipate we'll be able to hang onto it too for long.
