If ever there was a grape capable of magic, it’s pinot noir. Little wonder it’s key to many of the most expensive wines in the world.

2x Ara Resolute Organic Pinot Noir 2020

Red — Pinot Noir

Marlborough — New Zealand

You can taste the rugged mountains and icy rivers, the rush of the landscape and the darkness of the pinot grapes that grow here. It’s a powerful pinot. Full of dark berries and herby, nutty earthines. That palate maturity is prevalent throughout. Mushroom, mocha, a bit of wet earth, smoke, and game. This is a seriously generous and complex wine. The juiciness is set against spindly tannin giving the wine wonderful texture and a well presented, long finish. This is winemaking magic, mofos.

You'd pay $35 full price.

2x Sieger Estate Frederick Pinot Noir 2021

Red — Pinot Noir

Adelaide Hills — Australia

The words 'densely fruited' rarely lead a pinot noir tasting note but, here we are: densely fruited and medium bodied (nearing full), this wine means business. Raspberry, plum, black cherry - the development of the fruit profile is something to behold. It ain't all fruit, though, there's nettle, some mascarpone, sappy twigs, vanilla, and spice to be discovered, too. All of this complexity speaks to quality, if you let this wine open up in the glass (no need to decant, but be sure to give it a little slosh about) you'll be rewarded with little pockets of curiosity unfolding before your very eyes.

You'd pay $65 full price.

2x Rob Dolan Wines Pinot Noir 2023

Red — Pinot Noir

Victoria — Australia

You'll know Rob Dolan Wines for their reputation for excellence. They've been making some of the most iconic wines of the Yarra Valley and broader Victorian region for decades. This is, of course, no exception to that spirit of excellence; fresh red raspberries and pulpy cherry meat fine, slippery tannin structure. There is sappy acidity that frames the enduring finish. A brilliantly delivered wine from a master of their craft.

You'd pay $35 full price.

2x Twin Valleys Pinot Noir 2021

Red — Pinot Noir

Alpine & King Valleys — Australia

The Twin Valleys pinot noir grabs all that Alpine and King Valley freshness and bottles it up for us to enjoy elsewhere. The lightness and the cool, bright acid line that cuts through this wine brings a satisfying bit of energy to whoever’s lucky enough to have it in their cup (me, in this instance). Winter strawberry and under ripe raspberry on the palate immediately, but there is a bit of darker, richer fruit tucked in behind it. Mulberry and bramble, and a bit of vanillin oak presence, too. A bit of whole bunch lends a slippery, suppleness to the mouthfeel and ties the wine together beautifully. A fine boned, prickly finish that lasts and lasts.

You'd pay $31 full price.

2x Anarchist Pinot Noir 2022

Red — Pinot Noir

Limestone Coast — Australia

Fresh and exuberant pinot from the Limestone Coast in South Australia (home to globally famous Coonawarra). This is a fine with fun stitched in - it’s light, bright, lifted and energetic. The fruit profile sits squarely in the ‘light red’ spectrum with raspberries, winter strawberries, and cherries. This is one of those reds that, should the weather demand it, you can stick in the fridge for 40 minutes before tucking in.

You'd pay $25 full price.

2x Mt Bera Pinot Noir 2021

Red — Pinot Noir

Adelaide Hills — Australia

Ken Gargett once said of Mt Bera's pinot that it was "amongst the best on the mainland", which is a very high praise for this humble Adelaide Hills producer. Delightfully earthy, but backed up by lifted raspberry and red cherry notes, we would absolutely have to agree that this wine offers a great deal of value in every sip.

You'd pay $35 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

This curated lineup showcases Pinot Noir's incredible diversity across different regions and winemaking styles, from perfumed and elegant expressions to darker, more structured wines. Rather than committing to one style, you'll experience how terroir, vintage variation, and winemaker philosophy create distinctly different personalities within the same varietal. It's like having a masterclass in Pinot Noir's versatility, perfect for discovering your preferences or impressing guests with varied food pairings.

The collection spans Pinot Noir's full flavour spectrum, from bright red fruit notes like cherry and raspberry to deeper, more complex profiles featuring black cherry, plum, and earthy mushroom characteristics. Some bottles showcase the variety's signature spice elements with allspice and musky undertones, while others emphasise the tart, food-friendly sour cherry notes. This range reflects different ripeness levels, winemaking techniques, and regional influences that make Pinot Noir so fascinating to explore.

With vintages ranging from 2020 to 2023, this collection offers both immediate drinking pleasure and short to medium-term cellaring potential. The newer vintages like the 2023 Rob Dolan are perfect for enjoying their fresh fruit character now, while the 2020 and 2021 bottles have had time to develop more integrated flavours and can continue evolving for several more years. Pinot Noir generally peaks within 5-8 years of vintage, making this an ideal mix for various drinking occasions.

The beauty of this collection lies in having the perfect Pinot Noir for any culinary occasion - the lighter, more perfumed styles excel with salmon, duck, or mushroom risotto, while the darker, more structured bottles complement lamb, beef bourguignon, or aged cheeses beautifully. The earthy, mushroom-noted wines are exceptional with game birds or truffle dishes, and the cherry-forward expressions pair wonderfully with pork tenderloin or charcuterie. Having multiple styles means you can match each wine to specific courses or dining moods.

This collection features impressive credentials including 94-point Wine Orbit ratings, five-star reviews, and wines from iconic and boutique producers known for their Pinot Noir expertise. Several bottles showcase premium vineyard practices like organic certification, old vine fruit, and single vineyard sourcing, which typically translate to more concentrated flavours and distinctive character. The inclusion of estate-grown wines means complete control from vine to bottle, often resulting in more authentic expressions of their respective terroirs.
