2x Matahiwi Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
Wairarapa — New Zealand
Pinot is a really tough grape to handle at the best of times, let alone when on a budget. Every now and then, though, you do find some gems. This is one of those. Made by the team at Matahiwi, who are known to over-deliver, this pinot does, and then some! Light and bright, it ticks the fruit, complexity and pinosity boxes with a flourish. A firm favourite of our customers and staff, excitement levels get pretty high when Matahiwi enters the building.

Tasting Notes
2x Twin Valleys Pinot Noir 2021
Red — Pinot Noir
Alpine & King Valleys — Australia
The Twin Valleys pinot noir grabs all that Alpine and King Valley freshness and bottles it up for us to enjoy elsewhere. The lightness and the cool, bright acid line that cuts through this wine brings a satisfying bit of energy to whoever’s lucky enough to have it in their cup (me, in this instance). Winter strawberry and under ripe raspberry on the palate immediately, but there is a bit of darker, richer fruit tucked in behind it. Mulberry and bramble, and a bit of vanillin oak presence, too. A bit of whole bunch lends a slippery, suppleness to the mouthfeel and ties the wine together beautifully. A fine boned, prickly finish that lasts and lasts.
You’d pay $31 full price.

2x Byron & Harold Gravity White Chardonnay 2022
White — Chardonnay
Margaret River — Australia
When the days are long and the sun ceases to shine, do yourself a favour and free-pour another glass of this glistening full-flavoured Margaret River chardonnay. Now is the time to lap up all this world-renowned region and grape variety have to offer, for the secret is out, but the price is still proportionately low for such consistent quality - and it doesn’t get better than this.
Lemony but rich in classic chardonnay decadence, this is the bottle to grab on your way to fish n chips set upon an ocean view, or perhaps there’s a grilled chicken caesar salad to pair with on your best buds’ balcony. We know life will feel complete when you choose to pop the lid off this delicious drop.
You’d pay $32 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x Gapsted Limited Release Chardonnay 2021
White — Chardonnay
King Valley — Australia
Fresh and energetic chardy from Victoria’s High Country. Nutty, a little savoury and cheesy in parts, but with zippy stone fruit acidity that bristles on the palate. This is a wonderful example of high altitude brightness that doesn’t become overly lean or stingy. Nectarine, whole lemon, apricot, white peach - this has got it all. Complex and generous chardy under fifteen bucks? Sounds like a steal to me.
You’d pay $31 full price.

2x Penna Lane Three Valleys Riesling 2023
White — Riesling
Clare Valley — Australia
If you’re a lover of rizza, but have ever been put off by the thought of it taking the roof of your mouth off, this one is your jam. It’s a slightly riper style: less of the laser beam acid and more ripe fruit fun. It smells and tastes like a riz, with all that complexity and aromatic charm, while being deliciously easy drinking. There’s lime and sherbet, as standard, then hints of apricot, apple juice, and yellow apple. A great wine to have on hand for any occasion.
You’d pay $28 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x Ladbroke Grove School House Block Riesling 2016
White — Riesling
Coonawarra — Australia
Riesling might not be the first thing you think of with Coonawarra, but the climate and soil are actually perfect for developing intensity, crispness and ageability in the variety. Ladbroke is a new producer for us here at the 'Fo, and they hang their hat on riesling as much as they do cabernet. Rare for Coonawarra, we know. But when you have a single block of riesling on sandy loam that performs as well as this one does, you've gotta dive in.
They only make this wine in exceptional vintages so you won't get your hands on it every year. But we were lucky enough to get our hands on this aged example with seven years of maturity. Lemons, limes and a touch of orange blossom are all carried by bracing minerality and a hint of residual sugar (just a hint, we promise). Open one now to experience the zest but save a bottle or two for down the road to see how it develops even further.
You’d pay $28 full price.
