2x Ulithorne Avitus Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
Small production. Single vineyard. Old vines on sandy Blewitt Springs soils. And a winemaking team who treats every parcel of fruit like it's the most important thing in the world. Because when you drink this wine - you really feel like it's just that; the only thing that matters in the world. Ray Jordan called it "distinctive and classy... excellent wine." James Halliday described it as "suave and sophisticated." Two of Australia's most respected voices arriving at exactly the same conclusion - this is something special. Blackberry, dark plum and cedar on the nose, with spice and a lifted floral complexity that draws you in immediately. The palate is rich and velvety, with dark chocolate, mocha and a refined tannin structure that carries the finish long and clean. Concentrated without being blocky. Elegant without being shy. Single vineyard McLaren Vale shiraz from one of the region's most dedicated small producers. Drinks beautifully now and has years of development ahead. This one's a real treat.

2x Patritti Wines Blewitt Springs Vineyard Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
The Patrittis form a crucial piece of Australian winemaking history. They are the only family owned, fully operational urban winery in Adelaide, the beating heart of South Australia's wine trade. The Blewitt Springs Vineyard Shiraz is a single vineyard expression of all of this history, representing quality through and through. McLaren Vale is renowned for its shiraz – the region’s unique terroir imparts a depth and richness that's hard to beat. The 2022 vintage is particularly exciting. It was a year of balance and finesse, with perfect growing conditions that allowed the shiraz to develop intense flavours while maintaining elegance. This single vineyard shiraz, sourced from a meticulously cared-for plot, will likely offer a symphony of flavours – from ripe, juicy blackberries and plums to rich layers of chocolate, coffee, and a hint of pepper.

2x Schild Estate Angus Brae Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
The best of both worlds. All the big, bold, brash Barossa that you're used to, but with a point of difference. Elegance. A smooth, slippery, silky, shiraz that absolutely still packs a punch. Reminiscent of Hewitson's premium wines.
From a steep hillside vineyard, about 5kms north of the Lyndoch township, this full-bodied shiraz displays intricate and complex layers of black pepper, spice, dark chocolate and ripe blackberries and plums. The smoky cedar notes of the oak and super-fine grained tannins bring a touch of class to your glass and set up a long, velvety finish. Although already very elegantly well-integrated, the bright acidity, presence of the oak and slightly chalky tannin structure set this wine up for a long life in the cellar of anyone who's got the patience.

2x Hollick Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
If you ever wanted a to show someone what 'Coonawarra' tastes like - this is it. Super concentrated old-vine cabernet from one of Australia's iconic masters of the grape. Rich dark fruits, classic eucalyptus, tobacco, spices - it's all here! When it comes to cabernet, we’re happy to drop some buzzwords - Coonawarra, old vine, terra rossa, French oak. Coonawarra is arguably Australia’s greatest cabernet region. Old vines make for concentrated flavours and lower yields. Terra rossa refers to the red soil of Coonawarra that gives its wines their distinct dusty, earthy characteristic. French oak provides that perfect cedary backbone that holds together the fruit profile of cab sauv so well. So expect blackcurrant, plum, spice and chocolate on the palate carried through into an elegant finish with fine lingering tannins. We might have gone a bit heavy on the buzzwords here, but they exist for a reason.

2x Powell & Son Riverside GSM 2023
Red — GSM
Barossa — Australia
After a bit of a hiatus, it's one more time around the block we reckon. That's what happens when you have a GSM that walks off the shelf faster than we can stock it. Get in before it's gone. A regional icon of an iconic region. It’s bright and juicy, with elegant tannin and layered complexity. The palate’s exploding with blackcurrant and raspberry compote, sweet red cherries and liquorice. The generous splash of mataro adds a delightful medicinal undertone to this one - wine tonic for all your ailments. It’s plush enough for the winter, and will take a quick chill in the fridge over the heat of summer. No matter when, where, or who you share this with, it’s guaranteed not to disappoint.

2x Lambrook Aloft Pinot Noir 2025
Red — Pinot Noir
Adelaide Hills — Australia
Adelaide Hills pinot noir at this price should not be this good. And yet here we are.
Huon Hooke took one sip and called it out immediately - "good weight and depth of flavour for such an inexpensive pinot... value here." From a man who tastes more wine than most people will ever see in a lifetime, that's a ringing endorsement. Small batch, hand-plunged and open fermented with the kind of careful attention that usually results in bottles costing considerably more. The fruit is expressive and completely inviting - red cherry, plum, rose petal and a whisper of spice on the nose, with a silky, medium-bodied palate that's bright, elegant and genuinely satisfying from start to finish. Sandy tannins, lively acidity and a smooth texture that makes it dangerously easy to pour another glass. Duck breast, mushroom risotto, roast chicken or chargrilled salmon - this wine handles all of it with ease. It's also absolutely brilliant on its own on a quiet night when you just want something genuinely lovely in the glass. Cool-climate Adelaide Hills pinot at a price that makes grabbing a few an obvious and, frankly, responsible decision.
