Why do we love this case?
The Lucky Dip Case is back! The first time we did this, we broke the internet. This time we’ve bubble-wrapped the servers because they’re in for another beating.
Every case contains the same eleven wicked wines, including some of our absolute faves here at the ‘fo. More info on them below, and they’re all good things. All mofo standard - i.e. nothing we haven’t enjoyed ourselves.
Then there’s the added excitement of seeing which one of these world-beater wines you will receive as your twelfth.
The twelfth wine is the wildcard and could be any one of these:
An iconic Penfolds Grange 2018 worth $1000 - (1 in 100 chance)
Chateau Yaldara 1847 Grand Pappy's Shiraz 2021 worth $320 - (1 in 25 chance)
St Hallet Sacred Ground Shiraz 2022 worth $95 - (1 in 10 chance)
Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2022 worth $50 - (at a minimum!)
Each box contains one of these epic wines. The odds vary per wine, but each one is a centrepiece wine, worthy of some truly special occasions.

1x Amelia Park Ironstone Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Frankland River — Australia
This wine is, without doubt, one of the most popular we’ve ever seen at Vinomofo. How popular is popular, you ask? Well, thirsty mofos took over 30,000 bottles of a previous vintage straight out of our hands. Yup. We know it’s a great wine deal but when our mofo members are this unanimous in their desire for this drop; well it’s simply cause for one big shiraz gluggin’ celebration.
Full bodied and silky smooth with lashings of plums and earthy spice; if you’re quaffing this Frankland River gem on a week night, know you’re in good company alongside many a mofo. With one fist in the air (and the other holding a glass of this wine) we salute you!

2x Altus Rise Wildlight Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Margaret River — Australia
Meet the red that’s quietly flexing on the rest of your wine rack. Brilliant ruby in the glass, a little violet shimmer if you catch it in the right light - this one’s already showing off before you’ve even opened the thing. Stick your nose in and it’s all blackcurrant, cocoa and a hint of dried thyme - that perfect mix of sweet and savoury. On the palate, you’ll find juicy blackberries and cassis wrapped up in fine, pillowy tannins with that fresh pomegranate snap that gives it serious length and lift.
You’d pay $32 full price.

2x Vintage Longbottom Hank Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Australia — Australia
Born from ancient soils and old vines on the rolling hills of South Australia’s most famous coastal region, it channels all the flavour the Vale does best: vibrant berry fruit, dark chocolate depth, roasted coffee and a savoury twist of black olive. But here’s the kicker - HANK spends a short spell in seasoned bourbon barrels. That little detour adds a plush layer of richness, a touch of perfumed leather and a finish that feels both bold and beautifully refined. All in all, we end up with a wine that’s gentle, neat and unapologetically contemporary - one you’ll want to pour for mates, but might just keep for yourself.
You’d pay $25 full price.

2x Farmer's Leap Random Shot Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Padthaway — Australia
From a little-known corner of South Australia (completely covered in ex-Grange vineyards) comes this exceptional value shiraz. It’s absolutely jam-packed with stewed fruit, chocolate and liquorice. Ripe and delicious flavour that packs a real punch is carried on the back of bright acidity, lifting blackberries, bramble, black cherry and prosciutto notes alike to a long and delectable finish. This has to be up there in terms of best value buys. Whether you’re shopping for a pantry-stocking quaffer or something to share with the family over Sunday lunch, this is a great value contender with a foot in both camps.
You’d pay $22 full price.

2x Fox Creek Willunga Red Blend 2021
Red — Shiraz Blend
South Australia — Australia
Fox Creek - absolute legends of the Vale - doing what they do best: crafting reds that don’t just hint at flavour, they punch you in the mouth it flavour. This one’s a proper bruiser in the best way. Hold it up to the light? Forget it - this thing’s darker than your best mate’s sense of humour. The nose hits with rich cherry, raspberry and a little jammy goodness before the palate rolls in all smooth swagger and fine, grippy tannin. There’s a real depth here, but it’s balanced - plush fruit, solid structure, and a finish that doesn’t know when to quit.
You’d pay $20 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x Thistledown Wild & Wilder Shiraz Cabernet 2022
Red — Shiraz Blend
South Australia — Australia
Thistledown have never been the shy type, and this latest shiraz cabernet proves they're still up to no good - in the best possible way. Elegant, refined, but with that cheeky glint in the eye that says one more glass won’t hurt. It’s 90% shiraz swagger and 10% cabernet backbone - the perfect combo of lush black fruit, silky spice, and that little hit of cassis that keeps things interesting. Think rich berries, a hint of liquorice, a good lick of wood spice, and a finish smoother than a BB King solo.
You’d pay $20 full price.

Wild Card Wine #1
Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2018
South Australia
100pts Andrew Caillard MW | 100pts Tony Love | 100pts James Suckling | 100pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown | 100pts Ken Garget
“A robust Grange from a lauded vintage, this wields sheer power with such compelling prowess. Uncompromising Grange. There are rich blackberries and plums on offer, together with brazen oak and abundant notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, charcoal, cola and hard brown spices. So fleshy and intense. Dark-chocolate and cocoa-powder aromas and flavors here, too. The tannins are polished and long, extruding deep into the finish and holding endlessly. Dark chocolate, black cherry, dark plum and more. Impressive. Brazen. One of the great Granges that will drink magnificently for decades to come.” - James Suckling
“Deep colour. Beautiful and classic with intense blackberry, blackcurrant dark chocolate espresso aromas and wax polish, roasted chestnut, malt notes. Superbly concentrated wine with deep set inky blackberry, blackcurrant, dark plum, dark chocolate mocha flavours, fine chocolaty/ velvety tannins, underlying espresso, malt, oak notes and hints of aniseed. Finishes chocolaty firm with superbly integrated acidity and mineral length. A glorious year for Grange. This will last 50 years at least. Wonderful. One of the greatest vintages of all time highlighting a superb growing season, marvellous vineyard management, the fidelity of the Penfolds housemaking style and generations of imagination and effort. 97% Shiraz, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. 18 months maturation in 100% new American oak hogsheads. Drink 2030-2060+” - Andrew caillard
“A much-awaited vintage that fulfils expectations and then some. It has all the elements that you come to expect but still you have to sit back and marvel that so much can be going on inside one wine. Firstly, it simply ain’t Grange unless it is wearing its traditional American oak coat, and this iteration isn’t going to shy away from that. But perhaps it is the generosity across the board of South Australia’s 2018 vintage that gathers in 18 months of barrel maturation, puts shape to its broad-shouldered dark fruits, turns oak notes into chocolate and sarsaparilla characters on one side of the brain and beef and mushroom braise in the other. All in all, it is a fabulous balance of inputs: big fruit, classically prominent oak, all its structural tannins and acidity fitting cleverly into one exceptionally complex and engaging being. Palate length is indefinite, perhaps suggesting similar cellaring potential well into the second half of the 21st century. Magnificent.” Ken Garget, Wine Pilot

Chateau Yaldara 1847 Grand Pappy's Shiraz 2021
Barossa Valley, SA
97pts Ray Jordan | 97pts Sam Kim | 95pts Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot | 4.3 Vivino (All Vintages) | 9/10 Halliday Rated Vintage| Five Stars Wine Orbit
We all know the Barossa, and likely this icon of a wine, but do we really know it’s history? Introducing to you pioneers of this famed region, with this winery established over 150 years ago. They show no mercy when it comes to staying true to the region: meaty, bold, and focused reds with a whole lot of character. You know what we’re talking about: eye-catching hues of purple, soft and silky tannins, and more plummy goodness than you can poke a stick at. There’s cherry and rhubarb sure, but we’re talking unapologetic notes of chocolate, toasty oak and handfuls of freshly cracked pepper. It’s a showstopper, and built to impress even the most discerning of critics - as evidenced by its, not one but two, 97pt reviews.

St Hallet Sacred Ground Shiraz 2022
Barossa Valley, SA
94pts Ken Gargett Wine Pilot | 4.0 Vivino (All Vintages) | Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery| 9/10 Vintage Halliday Wine Companion | Iconic Producer | Killer Vintage
There is no mistaking a St Hallett classic - when it comes to shiraz, and when it comes to Barossa, they don't muck about. The Sacred Ground is an old favourite among the 'big and bold' faithful, and this iteration is no departure from that well earned reputation. Rich, ripe, chocolate, earthy and opulent. Little hints of cedar and tobacco sit deftly around determined, full throttle fruit density. St Hallett at their best - unashamedly broad and imposing while remaining stylish, complex, and relinquishing no ground when it comes to sophistication.

Wild Card Wine #4
Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2022
Barossa Valley, SA
4.0 Vivino (All Vintages) | Mofo Fave | Women in Wine
A seriously powerful bottle of wine with other-worldly levels of deliciousness. This is one robust shiraz that can be enjoyed now and long into the future, so don't be afraid to hold on to a couple of bottles.
In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. With Angela Miranda at the helm of the winemaking, this is one well made wine. There's a good dose of American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ole’ steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and in the future.
