Why do we love this case?
The Lucky Dip Case is back! The first time we did this, we broke the internet. This time we’ve bubble-wrapped the servers because they’re in for another beating.
Every case contains the same eleven wicked wines, including some of our absolute faves here at the ‘fo. More info on them below, and they’re all good things. All mofo standard - i.e. nothing we haven’t enjoyed ourselves.
Then there’s the added excitement of seeing which one of these world-beater wines you will receive as your twelfth.

McLaren Vale — Australia
Plush, rich blackberries and plums with a raspberry like acidity and wonderfully soft tannins. There's a good lick of oak but nothing distracting, a hint of eucalypt but it stops short of menthol. This wine's time in the cellar has done it absolute wonders - soft, smooth, silky, yet powerful, plush and ripe. A great wine from one of McLaren Vale's greatest producers.

How good is Yarra Valley shiraz? The likes of Yarra Yering have certainly put these dry reds on the radar, and we're so glad they have. In classic cool-climate style, there's plums aplenty supported by fervent black pepper spice. This is truly delicious, and we'd expect no less from this high calibre winery.

South Aussie shiraz: it's known the world over for a reason. Rich, decadent, chocolatey and oh so more-ish. From the famed clay soils of the Coonawarra comes this luscious shiraz that is all about personality. A little bit spicy, chewy tannins and a supple fruit driven body. It's hard to pick out anything that is not to like about this belter of a wine, it's all about pure enjoyment.

A bold and charismatic red that doesn’t tiptoe onto the palate - it kicks down the door and dives head first. This Barossa grenache is all action: juicy strawberries, ripe cherries and a rush of spicy raspberry that hits with astonishing power. Sourced from Ebenezer in the northern Barossa, where old vines grow in deep red clay at 300m elevation, this is pure, high-country Grenache with guts. The mouthfeel is plush and dramatic, with a savoury thread tying it all together. This is a wine you grab by the horns, and just try to hang on!

Here we go again with another delicious drop from one of the most consistently consistent producers we work with. Everything in balance and such a nice drink. Fruit in the blackberry and plum spectrum, underlying spice and earthiness, a bit of drying tannin. One of those ‘don’t overthink it’ kinda wines, straight up tasty, enjoyable and ready to roll. Good thing you’ll have another bottle of the same ready to go as you’ll want to come back for more.

A very smart little wine that is at once knock-about and complex. A medley of cherries and blackcurrants accompanied by hints of freshly ground coffee, dark chocolate, peppermint, liquorice, and subtle pepper aromas. It boasts a dense, velvety texture, offering a well-balanced fruit profile.

“A robust Grange from a lauded vintage, this wields sheer power with such compelling prowess. Uncompromising Grange. There are rich blackberries and plums on offer, together with brazen oak and abundant notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, charcoal, cola and hard brown spices. So fleshy and intense. Dark-chocolate and cocoa-powder aromas and flavors here, too. The tannins are polished and long, extruding deep into the finish and holding endlessly. Dark chocolate, black cherry, dark plum and more. Impressive. Brazen. One of the great Granges that will drink magnificently for decades to come.” - James Suckling
“Deep colour. Beautiful and classic with intense blackberry, blackcurrant dark chocolate espresso aromas and wax polish, roasted chestnut, malt notes. “A much-awaited vintage that fulfils expectations and then some. It has all the elements that you come to expect but still you have to sit back and marvel that so much can be going on inside one wine. Firstly, it simply ain’t Grange unless it is wearing its traditional American oak coat, and this iteration isn’t going to shy away from that. But perhaps it is the generosity across the board of South Australia’s 2018 vintage that gathers in 18 months of barrel maturation, puts shape to its broad-shouldered dark fruits, turns oak notes into chocolate and sarsaparilla characters on one side of the brain and beef and mushroom braise in the other. All in all, it is a fabulous balance of inputs: big fruit, classically prominent oak, all its structural tannins and acidity fitting cleverly into one exceptionally complex and engaging being. This shiraz is not only regionally expressive, it's thoroughly compelling (particularly when it comes to having a second glass). A seamless experience in opulence and class.
Spoilt for choice of old vine shiraz, this producer captures the intensity of their vineyards in true style. They've built a reputation for wines that are true to McLaren Vale, and the generations of craft that have been invested into the region. There’s deeply bound notes of spicy, chocolatey french oak that complements the pure line of blackcurrant, bramble and licorice. Standing tall now, we can’t wait to see where this will be in many years time.

Chalk Hill are a McLaren Vale institution. Boasting a 5 Star Halliday rating and a stable of wines that'd make some of the world's best very jealous. James Halliday described them as “An outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity”, and this wine certainly fits that description. Lifted aromatics of blood plums, red cherries and flowering herbs open up to a full-bodied palate of chocolate, blackcurrant and various red and black fruits. There's a fine tannin and lingering spice on the finish to make this a wine for almost any meal. Yep, you guessed it, this is an extra McLaren Vale-y McLaren Vale shiraz.
