When we were tasked with coming up with a selection of Barossa shiraz from one of the biggest names in the Australian wine game, Hutton Vale Farm, we knew were in for a long day. After tasting many, many vintages, again and again and once more (just to be sure)... these are the 3 vintages that swept us away, the cream of the crop, the best of the best.

Why do we love this case?
Owned by the Angas family (yes, that Angas family), Hutton Vale Farm is as much a part of the Barossa as big shiraz and german last names. With a history in region dating back to the mid 19th century, and having planted some of the most iconic Eden Valley vineyards, Hutton Vale Farm's pedigree is outstanding. With assistance from Penfolds winemaking royalty, Kym Teusner this family-run producer has developed a reputation for crafting some of the region's most delicious drops.
2x Hutton Vale Farm Shiraz 2007
Red — Shiraz
Eden Valley — Australia
What do you get when you hand the keys to one of the premier vineyards in Barossa to Australian wine royalty, Kym Tuesner? You get well-grown, well-made, deeply age-worthy wine, just like this one. And we've got MORE good news, you get to buy this thing pre-aged! 18 years in the darkness has done nothing but wonders for what was already a wonderfully powerful wine. Deep, dense and dark, with layers of savoury complexity and velvety tannins, this has turned into one of the most classic aged Barossa wines that we've ever had the pleasure of tasting. No need for further cellaring, this one's singing right now.

2x Hutton Vale Farm Shiraz 2008
Red — Shiraz
Eden Valley — Australia
Pedigree and provenance are what come to mind when thinking about Hutton Vale's shiraz. The ‘old’ block was planted in the 1960s with cuttings taken from the nearby Mount Edelstone vineyard with a 1990s expansion eight acres to the east with cuttings from the now established '60s vines. This is a powerful wine, mofos. Handpicked, destemmed and fermented for six days on skins before being matured for two whole years in French oak, the result of all that hard work is a seamless, distinguished, incredibly decadent shiraz. Think dark berries, leather, tobacco with a brooding finish. And it's pure silk in the mouth!

2x Hutton Vale Farm Shiraz 2017
Red — Shiraz
Eden Valley — Australia
The grapes that went into this were all hand-picked and destemmed with 30 months in French Oak (40% new), the result is a deep ruby wine with plenty of oomph. Pepper, aniseed and herbal notes on the nose lead into ripe cherries and plums, hints of violets and earthy forest floor. On the palate, the rich red berry and bramble notes meld with peppery spice and cedar, while the mouth-coating silky tannins lead into a lingering spiced plum finish. Delish!
