Why do we love this case?

In the 2024 Halliday Wine Companion alone Pepper Tree were awarded a 99, two 98s and a slew of 97-95 point accolades. These two reds offer absolute concentration and focus - they're richly fruited and dense. Raspberry and cherry coulis speak to freshness, plums, blackcurrant, and cassis speak to the robustness. They are both aged to perfection, having garnered serious critical acclaim this calendar year. If you are a lover of wine, these wines offer an experience like no other.

1x Pepper Tree Wines Single Vineyard Coquun Shiraz 2013

Red — Shiraz

Hunter Valley — Australia

Ten years young. Deeply concentrated, inky, and brimming with fresh fruit quality. The wine is so complex - so layered - that it's seemingly without end. It is almost a shame to drink it given the sheer amount of joy on offer from just swirling it and sniffing it and discovering what evolves in the glass. As a wine it's without equal - an out-and-out collectors piece. Simply stunning.

1x Pepper Tree Wines Block 21A Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Wrattonbully — Australia

This is cabernet that leans into the more sophisticated - dare I say it - lighter side of the varietal. Don't get me wrong, it is by no means a light wine, but it is ethereal, perfumed, uber-complex, seductive, and deftly delivered. There is nothing out of place, everything over delivers - it is supremely compiled.

Frequently Asked Questions

This pack features two exceptional single vineyard wines from Pepper Tree's premium range, both from the outstanding 2013 vintage. The Coquun Shiraz and Block 21A Cabernet Sauvignon represent the pinnacle of varietal expression, with each wine sourced from specific vineyard blocks chosen for their unique terroir characteristics. The combination of James Halliday's 98-point ratings and multiple gold medals demonstrates these aren't just good wines - they're benchmark examples of Australian red winemaking at its finest.

The Shiraz brings bold pepper, leather, and mocha characteristics typical of premium Australian Shiraz, while the Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structured black olive and woody notes with cassis depth. Together, they showcase the full spectrum of full-bodied red wine complexity - from the Shiraz's spicy warmth to the Cabernet's elegant tannin structure. This pairing allows you to explore how different varietals from the same producer express similar terroir influences in distinctly different ways.

The 2013 vintage has reached perfect drinking maturity, allowing both wines to develop the complex secondary flavours that only come with proper cellaring. At over a decade old, these wines have moved beyond their primary fruit characteristics to reveal the leather, mocha, and woody notes that define aged premium reds. This vintage timing is crucial - the wines have had sufficient time to integrate their tannins and develop the concentration and focus that critics have praised so highly.

Single vineyard wines are sourced from one specific vineyard block rather than blended from multiple sites, allowing the unique characteristics of that particular terroir to shine through. The Coquun vineyard and Block 21A represent Pepper Tree's finest sites, each with distinct soil, aspect, and microclimate conditions that impart specific flavour signatures. This approach produces wines with greater complexity and sense of place compared to regional blends, which is why single vineyard wines often command premium prices and critical acclaim.

Serve both wines at cellar temperature (16-18°C) and decant for at least 30 minutes to allow their complex aromatics to fully develop. The Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled meats, game, or aged cheeses where its pepper and leather notes complement rich, savoury flavours. The Cabernet Sauvignon excels with red meat dishes, particularly those with herb crusts or olive-based preparations that echo its black olive characteristics. Both wines have the structure and intensity to stand up to bold, flavourful cuisine.
