Why do we love this case?

Centuries of hard study and impossible calculations by boffins all over the world have gotten us no closer to figuring out whether we prefer gris or grigio. And you know what, we're happy sitting on the fence. In this case, you'll get to explore the wonders of both styles. It’s pretty much the best way to get around the grape.

2x Sorby Adams Handcrafted Pinot Gris 2023

White — Pinot Gris

Eden Valley — Australia

We have adored the red wines of the famed Simon 'Sorby' Adams, and we're beginning to show just as much enthusiasm with the white wines he has to offer. Having been head winemaker at Yalumba for 20 years, Simon certainly knows how to make top quality vino. This single vineyard pinot gris from the high vineyards of the Eden Valley is equally powerful and restrained. Showing layered notes of ripe pear, apple pie, and baking spices in a nuanced textural package, this pinot gris is perhaps one of the best we've ever offered in value and quality.

You'd pay $30 full price.

2x Viveur Pinot Gris 2022

White — Pinot Gris

Limestone Coast — Australia

This pinot gris is all about great winemaking. It’s an idea that seems rather obvious, doesn’t it? We’re not just talking about standard, good, everyday wine here. No no. This is an outstanding drop from Dan Berrigan, one of our favourite winemakers on the scene. These wines are fun, playful, energetic and geared for drinking on every occasion (no, apparently, a glass of gris with breakfast on a Tuesday doesn’t regularly fall into that category). But hey, you try and keep your hands off!

2x Pyren Vineyards Tanwood Pinot Gris 2023

White — Pinot Gris

Pyrenees — Australia

The Victorian Pyrenees is not the first place that you'd go searching for a bottle of pinot gris, but you certainly should start. With a classic climate for aromatic white wines, this is all about the fleshy white peach and pear drop characters that are hard to resist. Add in a dose of tartness somewhere in the realm of green apple and almond skin, and you've got the perfectly balanced glass.

You'd pay $25 full price.

2x Twin Valleys Pinot Grigio 2023

White — Pinot Grigio

King Valley — Australia

Italy’s leading grape varieties have an established home in the King Valley, including the ever-popular pinot grigio. This example of the grape is bright with citrus and pear on the nose and freshness from the nose to the palate with a crisp, mineral finish. When given more time to develop in the glass, the wine shares a greater depth to its expression. Ripe red apple, nashi pear, and hints of sherbet on the nose. From a weekend BBQ to a plate of spaghetti marinara over candlelight, it’s a flexible food wine that is sure to please.

You'd pay $25 full price.

2x Santa & D'Sas The King and I Pinot Grigio 2021

White — Pinot Grigio

King Valley — Australia

The King Valley is glorious gris and grigio growing country, and these folks certainly know what they’re doing with the grape. Nevertheless, the amount of flavour and complexity you get for your money is outstanding, and rather surprising. Luscious and layered, this wine is plentiful in flavour and loaded with orchard flavours. Apples and pears, exotic spices, clove and almond meal make for a marvellous marriage with Asian cuisine or creamy cheeses.

You'd pay $35 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

While both come from the same grape variety, the difference lies in winemaking philosophy and regional traditions. Pinot Gris (French style) typically offers richer, more textured wines with greater body and complexity, often showing stone fruit and spice characters. Pinot Grigio (Italian style) tends to be lighter, crisper and more mineral-driven, emphasising fresh citrus and green apple notes. This mixed case lets you experience both approaches side by side.

Yes, several wines in this selection are vegan-friendly, meaning they haven't used animal-derived fining agents like egg whites or isinglass during production. Modern winemaking increasingly favours plant-based or mineral fining agents, or sometimes no fining at all, allowing the wine's natural character to shine through. This approach often results in wines with more authentic varietal expression and terroir.

The diverse flavour profile spanning green apple, citrus, stone fruits and mineral notes makes this collection incredibly food-friendly. The lighter Grigio styles pair beautifully with seafood, fresh salads and light pasta dishes, while the richer Gris expressions complement roasted chicken, creamy risottos and soft cheeses. The herbaceous and spice elements also make them excellent with Asian cuisine and herb-crusted dishes.

Boutique producers typically focus on small-batch, hands-on winemaking rather than mass production, allowing for greater attention to detail and unique expressions of their vineyard sites. Single vineyard wines showcase the specific terroir characteristics of one location, offering a pure expression of that particular soil, climate and microclimate combination. This approach often results in more distinctive, characterful wines that reflect their origin rather than a house style.

Serve these wines well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight their fresh acidity and delicate aromatics - the stone fruit and floral jasmine notes really shine at proper temperature. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place away from temperature fluctuations. The various vintages (2021-2023) are all designed for current drinking, though the richer Gris styles may develop additional complexity with another year or two of careful cellaring.
