Ah, the age-old debate. Do I go for a gris or a grigio? Centuries of hard study and impossible calculations by boffins all over the world have gotten us no closer to finding an answer.

Why do we love this case?

Then, someone at Vinomofo put this case together and we collectively face-palmed at the simplicity of the solution. Here, you get two bottles of six different wines. Each wine is a little different so you’ve got some room for exploration, too. It’s pretty much the best way to get around the grape.

2x Brightwater Pinot Gris 2022

White — Pinot Gris

Nelson — New Zealand

Textbook pinot gris from Nelson in the north of New Zealand’s wild South Island. The wine spends three months on lees to build texture, flavour and complexity, delivering that slippery gris style with fresh orchard pear and white peach notes. The aromatics are bang on the money - with jasmine, rosewater and fresh herbs. There’s no way that this could be mistaken for a lighter, leaner pinot grigio style. It’s far too curvy and voluptuous for that, in classic Kiwi gris style.

You'd pay $25 full price.

2x Matahiwi Estate Pinot Gris 2022

White — Pinot Gris

New Zealand — New Zealand

Delightfully tropical with refreshing citrus. Honeydew melon and apricot yoghurt with bursting lime juice and lemon zest. This is really classic Kiwi gris – mineral, luscious, dry, and zippy. Pair with light summer meals for best results.

You'd pay $25 full price.

2x Paul Nelson De Taillevent Pinot Grigio 2023

White — Pinot Grigio

Great Southern — Australia

A brilliant all rounder. Peach and apricot fruit cup overlays tart green apple and winter pear. There is steeliness, too, which speaks to the grigio style. The acid sits low in the wine giving the stone fruit profie lift and drive without overtaking and consuming the wine. Perfect grigio, full marks.

You'd pay $29 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

While they're the same grape variety, the names reflect different winemaking philosophies and regional traditions. Pinot Gris (French style) typically produces richer, more textured wines with greater body and complexity, often showing honeyed and spiced characteristics. Pinot Grigio (Italian style) tends to be lighter, crisper and more mineral-driven, emphasising fresh fruit flavours and clean acidity. This mixed case showcases both styles, letting you experience how the same grape can express itself so differently depending on the winemaker's approach.

This curated selection spans Australia, New Zealand and Italy to demonstrate how terroir and winemaking traditions influence the same grape variety. Australian versions often balance richness with freshness, New Zealand expressions typically show vibrant acidity and pure fruit character, while Italian Pinot Grigio emphasises mineral precision and food-friendly elegance. By comparing these regional interpretations side-by-side, you'll develop a deeper understanding of how climate, soil and cultural winemaking practices shape a wine's final character.

The diverse flavour profiles in this case - from apple and pear to peach and honeysuckle - make these wines incredibly versatile with food. The crisper Pinot Grigio styles pair beautifully with seafood, light pasta dishes and fresh salads, while the richer Pinot Gris expressions complement roasted chicken, creamy risottos and soft cheeses. The spice and gingerbread notes in some bottles even work well with Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with ginger, lemongrass or mild chilli heat.

Most Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio wines are designed for immediate enjoyment to capture their fresh, vibrant character, and this case is no exception. The 2022-2023 vintages are at their peak now, showing optimal fruit expression and crisp acidity. While some of the richer Pinot Gris styles might develop interesting honeyed complexity over 2-3 years, the lighter Pinot Grigio expressions are best consumed within the next year to preserve their delicate aromatics and bright, food-friendly character.

Serve these wines well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight their fresh fruit character and crisp acidity. Use a medium-sized white wine glass to concentrate the delicate aromatics - you'll notice the jasmine, honeysuckle and citrus notes much better this way. Consider tasting them in order from lightest to richest, starting with the Italian Pinot Grigio styles and progressing to the more textured Pinot Gris expressions. This progression will help you appreciate the subtle differences in weight, texture and flavour intensity between the various styles.
