Why do we love this case?

Ah, the age-old debate. Do I go for a gris or a grigio? Centuries of hard study and impossible calculations by boffins all over the world have gotten us no closer to finding an answer. Then, someone at Vinomofo put this case together and we collectively face-palmed at the simplicity of the solution. Here, you get two bottles of six different wines. Each wine is a little different so you’ve got some room for exploration, too. It’s pretty much the best way to get around the grape.

Each case contains TWO of the following:

2x Wood Park Whitlands Pinot Gris 2022

White — Pinot Gris

King Valley — Australia

This winemaker left the big smoke of Melbourne to chase the country dream in the King Valley, and we’re pretty glad they did. Their vineyard in Whitlands produces some of the area’s best pinot gris, so it’s no surprise the resulting wine is one that speaks proudly. It’s fresh, vibrantly expressing pear, apple and spice, and just viscous enough to put it beyond the grigio range. This one’s easy and delicious, perfect for any night of the week.

You'd pay $27 full price.

2x Fenetre Lavande Pinot Gris 2022

White — Pinot Gris

South Australia — Australia

Steely and tart south Aussie gris. Vibrant stone fruit and citrus on the back of bristling acidity. Gris sometimes gets relegated to the warmer months alone, and while it’s well and truly at home under the brolly at the beach or in the back yard, there’s much more this wine offers. This has zesty lemon and green apple at its core, but there is plushness and texture flanking that freshness. Beautifully balanced and multifaceted, this versatile gris will hit the spot year-round.

You'd pay $25 full price.

2x Gapsted Ballerina Canopy Pinot Gris 2022

White — Pinot Gris

King Valley — Australia

Another vintage and another year that this pinot gris provides outstanding value. Let’s just lay out the virtues; mature vines, fantastic high altitude vineyard site, thoughtful and precise winemaking and a low price tag.

There is an intense palate of fresh cut pear, green apple and subtle spice on the finish. It walks the tightrope of providing plenty of flavour while also being dry and crisp, right in the zone for Aussie gris. This has become the go to gris for many a mofo over the years so if this is your first run-in with this runaway success, welcome.

2x Fox Gordon Charlotte's Web Pinot Grigio 2021

White — Pinot Grigio

Adelaide Hills — Australia

A long awaited return for this mofo fave grigio, and we have to say it was absolutely worth it. The Adelaide Hills have been producing vino that has our heads in the clouds, and the beauty of grigio from this high country is its pure, refreshing delight. Crunchy throughout, with apples and pears leading the charge. Despite the rich flavours, it’s still super easy drinking and stellar value for under $12. Keep a bit of summer in your fridge this winter!

You'd pay $25 full price.

2x Colab and Bloom Pinot Grigio 2022

White — Pinot Grigio

South Australia — Australia

We love us some bright, fresh and vibrant grigio here at the ‘Fo. And this one hits all those notes. There’s pear and green apple in spades and wonderfully balanced acidity to cleanse the palate. Nothing pairs better with lunch on the deck than a wine just like this. It doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that.

You'd pay $25 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

While they're the same grape variety, the winemaking styles create distinct personalities. Pinot Gris (French style) typically offers richer, more textural wines with stone fruit flavours and sometimes a touch of residual sugar. Pinot Grigio (Italian style) tends to be crisper, lighter, and more mineral-driven with citrus notes. This mixed case lets you explore both approaches with wines showcasing flavours from herbaceous citrus through to luscious white peach and apricot.

Serve all bottles well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight their crisp acidity and delicate aromatics. The beauty of this comparative tasting is experiencing how different producers interpret the same grape - some will show more floral jasmine and orange blossom notes, while others emphasise minerality and citrus zest. Try tasting the Gris and Grigio styles side by side to really appreciate how winemaking technique influences the final wine's character.

The diverse flavour profile across these wines makes them incredibly food-friendly. The more mineral-driven Grigio styles pair beautifully with fresh seafood, goat's cheese salads, and light pasta dishes. The richer Gris expressions complement roasted chicken, creamy risottos, and Asian cuisine with their stone fruit and musk characteristics. The herbaceous notes in some bottles make them perfect with herb-crusted fish or vegetarian dishes.

These wines are crafted for immediate enjoyment and showcase the fresh, vibrant character that makes Pinot Gris/Grigio so appealing. While they'll remain stable for 2-3 years in proper storage, their charm lies in those bright citrus, pear, and floral notes that are at their peak now. The various vintages (2021-2022) are perfectly positioned for current drinking, allowing you to experience each wine's intended expression.

This curated selection solves the classic wine lover's dilemma by offering a structured exploration of one grape's versatility. With two bottles of each wine, you can taste one immediately and save the second for comparison or special occasions. The variety spans different Australian regions and winemaking philosophies, giving you insights into how terroir and technique influence this popular variety - essentially a masterclass in Pinot Gris/Grigio without the hefty price tag.
