Why do we love this case?

In the Barossa, Glen Eldon is synonymous with quality and innovation. With access to many micro-sites of soils and elevations, there's scope to really hone in on what it is each wine is trying to express specifically - in short, the producer can craft the exact type of wine that they want. We just got lucky that they want to make big, classically-styled Aussie shiraz!

2x Glen Eldon Twisted Trunk Reserve Shiraz 2023

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

Hooley dooley. Old vine mastery. This has all the ethereal complexity that you can only really achieve when harvesting fruit from ancient vines. Gnarled and moody in the glass, as it's allowed to drink in a little air you'll see it evolve and open up to you. Something special to be sure. It’s always exciting to come across a wine with such presence in the glass. This has a powerful black fruit core that really ties the wine together, making it full and complete. The aromatic power of the wine walks the walk when it comes to the palate - glossy and full and rich. The fruit profile swarms the mouth; brambly, briary, bunchy. That freshness and focus of the fruit is followed by spice, coffee, and toffee nuance. This is immense in every sense of the word.

You'd pay $200 full price.

4x Glen Eldon Eight Barrels Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

This producer has a well-earned reputation for big reds, and this fits the bill for sure. Right out of the box this is an imposing, commanding wine that insist on a sense of occasion, then rises to it.
Richly fruited. Lashings of ripe black and blue fruits folded over vanilla, cake spice, cedar and mocha. The oak is present - persistent even - but it plays a marked second chair to the fruit, as it should me. Weighty, opulent, powerful shiraz. There is a lighter touch, too; dried petals and spices are beset against the dense fruit core giving the wine another dimension. Velvety tannins carry the wine through a lasting finish. This is seriously good gear - a fine example of what premium Barossa shiraz should look like.

You'd pay $90 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Glen Eldon leverages the Barossa's diverse micro-sites with varying soils and elevations to craft wines that express specific terroir characteristics. This precision allows them to create exactly the style they envision rather than being constrained by a single vineyard's limitations. Their access to multiple sites means they can blend from the best parcels to achieve their signature big, classically-styled Australian shiraz profile.

The showcase features wines scoring between 95-97 points from respected critics like Wine Orbit and Ray Jordan, reflecting Glen Eldon's commitment to quality and innovation. These exceptional scores indicate wines that demonstrate perfect balance, complexity, and age-worthiness. The consistent five-star ratings and recognition as a 'Mofo Fave Producer' suggest these wines represent benchmark examples of modern Australian shiraz craftsmanship.

These wines showcase the classic Australian shiraz profile with rich black cherry and plum fruits complemented by sophisticated secondary notes of cocoa, vanilla, and liquorice. The full-bodied palate weight indicates concentrated flavours with substantial tannin structure, while the vanilla notes suggest careful oak integration. This flavour combination represents the pinnacle of Barossa shiraz - powerful yet refined, with the complexity that comes from old vine fruit and expert winemaking.

The Twisted Trunk Reserve 2023 represents Glen Eldon's premium single-vineyard expression, likely sourced from their oldest, most characterful vines that produce naturally low yields. The Eight Barrels 2020, as the name suggests, is a carefully curated blend from eight specific barrels, allowing the winemaker to create a more complex, layered wine through selective barrel blending. Both showcase different aspects of Glen Eldon's winemaking philosophy while maintaining their signature rich, full-bodied style.

These full-bodied shiraz wines are best served at cellar temperature (16-18°C) to allow their complex aromatics to fully express themselves. The rich black fruit and cocoa notes make them perfect partners for grilled red meats, aged cheeses, or hearty winter stews. Given their structure and quality, these wines will benefit from decanting 30-60 minutes before serving, and their age-worthy nature means they can be cellared for 10-15 years to develop additional complexity.
