Why do we love this case?

Gigondas is a small appellation that sits inside the broader Southern Rhone wine region - it is famous for producing exceptional grenache dominant red blends, the best of which go toe-to-toe with Rhone powerhouse Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here we have three wines of distinction that will give you a stunning introduction to the region (if that’s what you seek) while also lifting your expectations to lofty heights that can never be matched anywhere close to this price point. So... sorry about that, I guess.

1x Domaine des Bosquets Le Plateau Gigondas 2019

Red — Other Red

Rhône Valley — France

The Domaine des Bosquets ‘Le Plateau’ is, first and foremost, a commanding wine. It is richly fruited, baked (but not jammy) red fruits and deeply ripe toover ripe black currant, brample and blood plum. Clove and fennel mix with tobacco and wet earth to round out what is a distinctly powerful wine. It has had enough down-time to find itself in the right drinking spot, but there’s no rush, you’ve easily got ten years to drink this, and that’s being conservative. Realistically, you could crack one of these beauties beyond 2040 and still be in for a marvelous time.

You'd pay $150 full price.

1x Domaine des Bosquets La Colline Gigondas 2019

Red — Grenache Blend

Rhône Valley — France

If you were looking for a wine that typifies the wines of Gigondas, well, look no more. Rich plums, spice, pebbly minerality, some baked rhubarb tartness that tightens your face a little as you imbibe. The aromatic profile casts a wide net - from rose petal to tobacco to bitter orange peel and amaro - making for a truly intriguing and complex experience. But hey, don’t take our word for it - see what the critics have got to say below.

1x Domaine des Bosquets Le Lieu Dit Gigondas 2019

Red — Grenache

Rhône Valley — France

This is something pretty special - a once in a lifetime wine. Jeb Dunnuck called it "one of the finest Gigondas ever made," and we wholeheartedly agree. A pure expression of the region and style, and one that will last the ages, too. Strawberries met spice meet dried, herbal flowers. That elegance sits on a bed of gnarled decay and rich, baked (but still sappy) fruits. This is rich and finessed, potent and precise. A Gigondas for the ages – stash this one away in the cellar and forget about it for years and years. Seriously. Enjoy it now or in 2050 (or anywhere in between for that matter) - the enviable choice is yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gigondas sits as a prestigious appellation within the Southern Rhône, renowned for producing grenache-dominant blends that rival the legendary Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The region's unique terroir, with its distinctive red clay and limestone soils combined with the Mediterranean climate, creates wines of exceptional concentration and complexity. These three Domaine des Bosquets wines showcase why Gigondas is considered one of France's most undervalued appellations, delivering world-class quality at a fraction of the price of its famous neighbour.

Each wine represents a different vineyard site or 'lieu-dit' within Domaine des Bosquets' holdings, showcasing how terroir variations can dramatically influence wine character even within a single estate. Le Plateau, La Colline, and Le Lieu Dit each express unique aspects of Gigondas' diverse landscape - from elevated plateau sites to hillside slopes - allowing you to experience the full spectrum of what this exceptional appellation can offer. This approach mirrors how Burgundian producers craft multiple cuvées to highlight specific vineyard characteristics.

These powerful, textured wines benefit from decanting 1-2 hours before serving to allow their complex aromatics to fully develop and any tannins to soften. Serve at cellar temperature (16-18°C) in large Burgundy glasses to concentrate the intense flavours of black cherry, blackberry, and warming spices. The wines' savoury character and full body make them perfect companions for rich, herb-crusted lamb, game meats, or aged hard cheeses that can match their intensity and complexity.

The remarkable ratings - including a perfect 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck and multiple 96-97 point scores from Robert Parker - place these wines among the world's elite. These scores reflect not just immediate drinking pleasure, but the wines' exceptional balance, complexity, and ageing potential that critics recognise as hallmarks of truly great wine. Such consistent high scoring across multiple respected critics indicates wines of extraordinary quality that typically command much higher prices in the marketplace.

While these full-bodied wines are approachable now, showing beautiful integration of their allspice, plum, and dark berry flavours, they're built for long-term cellaring. The 2019 vintage in Southern Rhône produced wines with excellent structure and balanced acidity that will continue developing complexity over the next 10-15 years. You can enjoy them immediately with decanting, but patience will be rewarded as the wines evolve, developing tertiary aromatics and achieving even greater harmony between their powerful fruit and savoury elements.
