Why do we love this case?
We have to say, this one was a hard pack to pull together. Mostly because we kept drinking all of the cellar reserve cabernets ourselves, or couldn’t keep them in stock long enough to bring a trio together. The point is mofo, we got there. We all know aged cabernet can be one of those unicorns, hard to find, but priceless when you do. Our producers have done the cellaring for you, so now all that’s left to do is crack these babies open (although we suggest giving them some airing time before diving in).
1x Juniper Cornerstone Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Margaret River — Australia
The 2017 vintage had it's challenges, but this wine and this producer bucked the trend entirely. This is a masterfully crafted, elegant-yet-powerful (thanks to that slightly higher ABV), age worthy Cab. We can't get enough of it (literally, we bought everything we could get our hands on and it won't be enough). Varietal in all the right ways; long, herbed, a touch twiggy, a lot brambly. Where it steps outside the mould a little, though, is in the density of the fruit. It borrows somewhat from the powerful fruit profiles of Coonawarra, but it doesn't shed its Margaret River finesse in doing so.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
This wine will be a special treat for the mofos who get their hands on a case, of which there aren’t many available. It’s a cellar release that has 10 years of ageing, developing and improving in its future. It’s a cuvèe that is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get some for the site.
Each glass of this cabernet is sure to be excellent and intriguing. The once boisterous tannins have now mellowed on the silky palate, and fruit is joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish.

1x Hemera Estate Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
The 2017 Barossa vintage was 'near perfect.' A wet Spring reduced frost pressure, and a cooler growing season allowed for lengthy hang time for grapes on the vine. Now, six years on, the proof is in the bottle - the resultant wines are magnificent.
Plush and plummy. Robust and bold. This wine marries zippy acidity with ripe fruit flavours and deftly integrated tannins to deliver a delightful, lasting flavour profile. A good whack of oak frames the fruit without taking over. The takeaway from drinking this is the balance - it's supremely harmonious, which means it will (for those with better self control than me) age well into the next decade.

1x Sunshine Creek Cabernets Cabernet Blend 2013
Red — Cabernet Blend
Yarra Valley — Australia
Sunshine Creek never misses a beat for my mind; they make wines that are built to go the distance. I’ve been picking through a bit of their back vintage of late and I’ve been impressed at every turn. This is a 10 year old cabernet with a fair bit left in the tank, relatively speaking. The fruit is still grounded in bright, exuberant freshness - raspberries and blackcurrants. There’s an overture of woodiness and tomato leaf, which gives the wine depth and intrigue. This is ageing gracefully, and will continue to do so over the rest of this decade.
You’d pay $45 full price.

1x Wild Game Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
We love to drag something out of the cellar, dust it off, and have it absolutely blow us away. There's no real mystery to it: great winemaking creates wines that last. This is opulent, luscious, deep, brooding, and still exuding freshness and lift. Its velvety on the palate with an intense dark fruit medley of plums, cherries, and blackberries. That fruit profile persists through a lingering finish, balanced by subtle oak and spritely acidity. Ten years has done this wine wonders - mature and balanced but still packing a punch.
