1x Eileen Hardy Hardy Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
This is the McLaren Vale shiraz that sets the benchmark. The big kahuna. The flagship. From the family so entrenched in the Australian wine landscape that it's hard to see where the vines end and their boots start. When we think of Australian shiraz - we think of this family, we thin of this wine. This isn’t just any shiraz - it’s a masterclass in balance. Sure, it’s full-bodied, deep and brooding, but it wears its power with style. Waves of blackberry, plum and blueberry rolling through, chased by whiffs of coffee grind and a smoky little savoury twist. Seventeen months in French oak has wrapped it all up in sleek texture and supple tannins that glide across the palate like Tom Cruise in 'Risky Business'. It’s rich, it’s refined, it’s ridiculously good. That perfect dance of intensity and precision that McLaren Vale dreams are made of. Every sip unfurls with dark fruit, chocolate, clove and a touch of violet - lush and layered, but never over the top. Seriously special stuff.
You’d pay $160 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz 2019
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
This is Reserve shiraz, only made in the best years and in tiny quantities. You’ll find layers of dark fruit - plum, blackberry and cherry compote - with spice, dark chocolate, earthy notes and a savoury edge that speaks to both the old vines and McLaren Vale itself. It’s full-bodied but not clumsy, plush but structured, with tannins that are firm yet polished. The finish is long and layered, the kind that makes you pause before you even think about the next sip and just take a moment to enjoy yourself.
You’d pay $110 full price.

1x Mitolo Savitar Shiraz 2021
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
Wonderfully textured, the wine is built around a long mineral acidity which carries intensity through the palate. White pepper, cedar and elegant allspice notes linger throughout the lengthy, linear finish. Matured for 20 months in 85% new French, 5% New American and 10% Seasoned French Oak hogshead barrels - drink it now or dig a hole in your backyard and forget about it. You could age this one for 15 years if you wanted but we're willing to bet you won't be able to keep your hands off it for that long!
You’d pay $105 full price.

1x Clarendon Hills Liandra Shiraz 2016
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
We're not overstating it when we say that this winemaker is genuinely one of the greatest producers in Australia (if not the world) - yep, seriously. They're responsible for some of the most esteemed wines that this country has to offer and are actually attributed with pioneering "Single-Vineyard" wines in this country. Strikingly perfumed, infinitely complex and downright delicious. One for collectors and serious shiraz lovers - this'll make your mates jealous.
The second you get a whiff of this it's absolute fireworks. Think black cherry, blueberry and tangy currant all tangled up with crushed rose petal, peppercorn and olive tapenade. There’s even that classic McLaren Vale smoky-meaty thing - just another layer of complexity. It’s seductive, savoury, and utterly impossible to ignore. Then the palate hits - taut, focused, and built like a brick you-know-what. Crunchy acidity, fine talc-like tannins, and a slow build of dark fruit, French oak and spice that keeps unravelling layer after layer. It’s got muscle, sure, but it’s no brute. To use the cliche, this is an iron fist in a velvet glove - power, polish, and serious cellar potential. To drink now, decant it and pair it with a fat steak or roast lamb and you’ll be grinning. Or, if you’ve got patience (and a strong will), stash it 'til 2092 and watch it morph into something truffly, earthy and deeply complex. Completely breathtaking.
You’d pay $75 full price.

1x Gemtree Wines Ernest Allen Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
James Halliday doesn't hand out 95 points willy-nilly. So when he does, we pay attention. What we have here is a wine of genuine class that showcases what happens when 20-120 year old vines meet sophisticated winemaking and 18 months of careful French oak maturation. This is shiraz artistry in its purest form. Dark purple and black fruits flow like liquid velvet, while tannins and oak play perfect supporting roles - present but never overwhelming the star of the show. The complex aromatic profile unfolds in waves: intense liquorice and blackberry, lifted by cinnamon and cherry liqueur, finished with rich oaky nuances that add sophistication without stealing the spotlight. Ripe, yet punchy, with soft tannins and a pleasing finish that lingers long after the glass is empty. This 2018 showcases a dense and focused palate where sweet blackcurrant flavours are tightly wound, creating an elegant and integrated finish that defines what premium shiraz should be. Absolutely ripping from now through 2033. That's 15 years of drinking pleasure from vines that have been perfecting their craft for over a century.
You’d pay $60 full price.

1x Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz 2018
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
It is no secret that we are big fans of McLaren Vale shiraz, so forgive us if we wax a little lyrical here and show a little bias. The grey label shiraz is an absolute stunner and exactly what we want when indulging in a shiraz from the 'Vale — plushness, with power, with richness, and at six years of age it is entering a beautiful drinking window. A window that you can be happy to pop open at your next family bbq, the in-laws will mark you down as their favourite, Dad will be nudging you every 20 mins for a top up, Mum will be telling everyone how thoughtful you are. Now, your siblings might be a little jealous, but you, you will be chuffed. Chuffed with your purchase and the other five bottles you've got stashed away.
You’d pay $35 full price.
