No need to activate that ‘fight or flight’ instinct though, just some glassware and a few mates.

Included in this case:

2x Watkins Cellar Reserve Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2017

Red — Shiraz

Langhorne Creek — Australia

The name Watkins might be new to some, but their contributions to the wine industry have pre-dated many. In fact, they’ve been making the wines for many big name South Australian wineries for decades. Walk into their cellar door right on the border of McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, and you’ll never want to leave. You'll be captured with their cellar reserve wines, the way that the plush fruit balanced so well with the savoury edges. There is no occasion that this wine doesn’t fit. Luckily for us, the same applies to the company of the Watkins family themselves. Cheers to you, legends!

You’d pay $35 full price.

2x Hollick Red Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

This is jam packed full of black and red fruit - currants and raspberries mix with bramble and plums. The earthy and greener notes chime in late, backing up that initial fruit with some savoury depth. Classic Coonawarra - completely delicious. Estate fruit from the famed Hollick vineyards in Coonawarra, this is cab sauv like Aussies know and love. Certainly, a little bit of age behind this number has helped to fill out the mid palate, making it rich and dense with threads of fennel and mint throughout. It's very hard not to enjoy this wine - and we're speaking from experience.

You’d pay $35 full price.

2x Di Fabio Joven Tempranillo 2024

Red — Tempranillo

McLaren Vale — Australia

Here's an Australian tempranillo giving the people exactly what we want. Shaped by a top-notch vintage, it lands squarely in that sweet spot between bright, juicy and quietly serious. Medium-bodied, super drinkable, and full of personality. This is the sort of red you open because you feel like a glass… and then realise the bottle’s empty. Just super yummy. Red cherry and raspberry are front and centre, with a little spice and dried herb whispering in the background to keep things interesting. On the palate it’s lively and smooth, the fruit gliding along before dipping into slightly darker, savoury territory as it rolls toward the finish. Fresh, energetic and very hard to put down. Delicious now, but will happily develop over the next few years. Proof that Australian tempranillo absolutely deserves more airtime.

You’d pay $30 full price.

2x Aramis White Label Shiraz 2022

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

This little beauty is punching above its weight and then some. From an enviably located vineyard whose fruit is in high demand from very prestigious Vale producers, this small batch producer holds back some parcels to craft this delicious drop. Every single review on this wine mentions value for money, and they're talking full rrp when they do, so this is an epic deal here. It walks a perfectly balanced line between opulent and elegant, earthy and fruit-forward, intenisty and complexity.

You’d pay $25 full price.

2x Peter Lehmann Layers Red 2021

Red — Shiraz Blend

Barossa — Australia

This bombshell Barossa blend comes from a producer so iconic we’re shocked they even had any stock for us - and trust us, that alone should get your heart rate up. A cheeky, yet well thought out shiraz blend, this one's all about bold flavours and a silky-smooth texture. Great stuff. In the glass it pops a vibrant crimson - extremely bright and alive. From the first sniff, you start picking up dark cherry, spice and a little something savoury that tells you this isn’t your average mid-week red. Shiraz brings the power and depth, tempranillo locks in that firm, savoury edge, and mourvèdre throws in its trademark wild, earthy charm. Then grenache swoops in like the glue that holds the whole thing together, smoothing the palate and lifting the aromatics. The end result is a silky, seamless blend with real Barossa muscle but none of the sluggishness. Plush fruit, spice, texture and length for days.

You’d pay $20 full price.

2x Serafino Wines Goose Island Shiraz 2022

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

This shiraz genuinely punches well above its weight - especially when you take into account the name on the label - delivering quality and complexity you'd expect from wines commanding significantly higher prices. It's got power, finesse and approachability, meaning you can geek out analysing all the layers or just pour generously and enjoy without overthinking. Vibrant, polished McLaren Vale shiraz crafted with estate-grown fruit sourced from two of this producer's most famous vineyards. 9 months in seasoned American (70%) and French (30%) oak brings a bit of grunt whilst retaining fruit purity. Ripe dark plum and spice aromas leading to a generous, structured palate - juicy black fruit, subtle peppery notes, a plush texture and fine supple tannins stretching to lingering finish. Store or pour - up to you - this one will be sitting pretty from now until 2030 at least!

You’d pay $18 full price.
