2x Schoolhouse Headmaster Chardonnay 2025
White — Chardonnay
Padthaway — Australia
Stone fruit, cashew and vanillin oak with a richly textured palate bringing creamy stone fruit and a touch of tropical character, tightened up by wonderful acidity and a citrus tang on the finish. Ripe lemon and peach sit alongside caramel and toasted oak, finishing longer than you've got time for. You'll be tasting this one til you brush your teeth next. Old-school drive, modern-day balance. This one's built to actually be enjoyed, not just admired.
You'd pay $55 full price.

2x Nova Vita Wines Delirium Chardonnay 2024
White — Chardonnay
Adelaide Hills — Australia
Nobody's telling you when to drink this one. Sunday arvo, special occasion, straight out of the fridge on a Wednesday because the week's been a lot - all fine. Just a delicious glass of Chardonnay to be enjoyed at your own discretion. A bit of oak, a bit of texture, a bit of zippy brightness. All in check, all working beautifully. It's spent time in French oak, which shows up as a bit of extra shape without taking over. The nose is all about stonefruit, grapefruit, nectarine and a bit of citrus zing on top. There's real texture happening here, not just flavour for the sake of it, and a fine thread of zestiness runs the whole way through to a deceivingly long finish. Genuinely a lot going on for what it is. Drink it now or hang onto it for a couple of years - it's got two to four years of runway either way, so the timing's entirely up to you.

2x Mont St Lunara Chardonnay 2024
White — Chardonnay
Alpine & King Valleys — Australia
Ripe stone fruit meets bright natural acidity (and a bit of clever work in the winery) to create a balanced, purposeful wine that overdelivers at every possible turn. It's not the dark yellow, flabby chardonnays of your parents' era - this is modern Australian chardonnay, right where you want it. Because of the altitude and natural cool-climate of the King/Alpine Valleys, you don't have to worry about these wines being lively - that natural acidy is built into the very core of the fruit from which this wine is made. There's not a lot we can say about this wine that isn't evident from the colour of the thing. Bright, fruit forward, zippy and rich in all the right places. Versatile, vivacious and very, very, very east to drink.

2x Handpicked Regional Selections Chardonnay 2017
White — Chardonnay
Yarra Valley — Australia
The Yarra Valley does a lot of things well. Chardonnay might just be the best of them. And 2017 was quite possibly the best Yarra Chardy vintage in a lifetime. This one delivers absolutely classic Yarra vibes. Stone fruit, citrus, a mineral edge and a creamy, textured mid-palate built from careful French oak maturation. It's the kind of wine that works just as hard at a dinner table as it does on its own on a Friday afternoon. Vibrant, elegant and completely delicious. This one pulls fruit from two distinct parts of the valley - the warmer valley floor for richness and spice, and a high-altitude site in the Upper Yarra for citrus snap and nervous acidity. The result is a Chardonnay with real depth and complexity, where neither end of the spectrum dominates and everything sits in genuinely satisfying balance. Yarra Chardonnay at a price that makes grabbing a few an easy decision.

2x Pyren Vineyards Tanwood Chardonnay 2025
White — Chardonnay
Pyrenees — Australia
Chardonnay at this price point rarely, if ever, hits this level of palate weight and fruit richness. This is a mid-week wine that doesn't muck about. Creamy pasta, a bottle of this, the couch - what a night. Delightful and approachable. Green apple, citrus, pear, a touch of soft vanilla. On the palate, it's crisp and clean but ripe and weighty, papaya and grapefruit offer ripe tropical flavours and aromatics. The acid is lively and vibrant through the finish. This is a perfect wine to have on hand all summer long, fresh, exciting, energetic, and fruit driven - it'll go with anything and it'll please anyone.

Padthaway — Australia
This chardonnay is buttery, rich, peachy, flinty, rounded and ready for a good time, packing all kinds of punches in a sensationally smashable outfit. Padthaway is undoubtedly an underdog region. Not for lack of quality or passion, which comes in bucketloads here. Head inland to find this little gem of an area where the limestone and sandy soils cover the landscape: the beating heart of some outstanding value wines. Consider yourself warned, mofo: deals like this should not be taken for granted.
