2x Journey Wines Ghost Wolf Chardonnay 2024
White — Chardonnay
Yarra Valley — Australia
This is Yarra Valley chardonnay that's as generous as it is sophisticated... Grapefruit, nuts, lemon pith, oak and lanolin all greet you before the wine has even touched your lips. The palate goes to another level of complexity, trying to pick individual notes is like picking individual voices in a choir. And why should we? If the song sounds good, let 'em sing - and the wine is certainly singing now. The Yarra Valley has long provided some of the finest chardonnays made in this country, and this recent release - young though it may be - reinforces that reputation emphatically. This is seriously impressive stuff with an exciting future ahead. Instantly identifiable as Yarra chardonnay, the wine is concentrated and elegant and energetic and mouth-filling, all at the same time. It speaks of place, and you could do much worse than speak about the gorgeous vineyards of the Yarra Valley and it's many surrounding hills. This place has been pumping out some of the best chardonnays in the country for a very long time - just check Halliday's Chardonnay Challenge!

2x Moss Brothers Field of Dreams Chardonnay 2023
White — Chardonnay
Margaret River — Australia
This is a great example of letting the grape variety shine and it took some real care in the vineyard and the winery to accomplish. Picked in the cool of the early morning hours then racked to tank with some solids added for fermentation. The juice is separated with the majority placed in French oak to ferment and the rest kept to committed to tank. Post fermentation, bâtonnage is introduced to bring an extra textural element and build flavour. The result is a quintessential Margaret River chardonnay with richness, complexity and a lengthy, but not flabby, finish.

2x Kellybrook Edenesque Chardonnay 2024
White — Chardonnay
Yarra Valley — Australia
Sourced from three outstanding Yarra Valley sites, Siwa, Willowlake and Full Moon - Yarra Valley chardy-heads have already clicked add to cart - this is a beautifully poised chardonnay that cheerfully sits on the fence between richness and restraint. Lime splice, lemon curd and nectarine on the nose tells you we're somewhere in or around the Yarra. A juicy palate of rockmelon, pink grapefruit and just enough of that buttery, toasty, oaky richness. A little saline twang keeps things fresh, while the creamy mouthfeel adds just the right touch of indulgence. Barrel-fermented, mostly through malo, and aged in French oak, this is layered, textural, and ridiculously well made for the price. If you're unsure where your chardy loyalties lie - big and buttery or lean and racy - this sits perfectly in the middle. Elegant, balanced, and damn delicious.

2x Mont St Lunara Chardonnay 2024
White — Chardonnay
Alpine & King Valleys — Australia
Ripe stone fruit meets bright natural acidity (and a bit of clever work in the winery) to create a balanced, purposeful wine that overdelivers at every possible turn. It's not the dark yellow, flabby chardonnays of your parents' era - this is modern Australian chardonnay, right where you want it. Because of the altitude and natural cool-climate of the King/Alpine Valleys, you don't have to worry about these wines being lively - that natural acidy is built into the very core of the fruit from which this wine is made. There's not a lot we can say about this wine that isn't evident from the colour of the thing. Bright, fruit forward, zippy and rich in all the right places. Versatile, vivacious and very, very, very east to drink.

2x Credaro Five Tales Chardonnay 2024
White — Chardonnay
Margaret River — Australia
The nose is initially bright, bold, and fruit-forward in all the right ways. It's all about juicy white stone fruit and melon doing hitting that balance with roasted cashew, nougat, and a sprinkle of sweet spice from some seriously thoughtful oak work. It’s elegant, but not shy. Then there’s the palate - fresh as a sea breeze and just as invigorating. That grapefruit zing keeps things zippy, while a delicate, talcy texture and a good lick of oak adds a little luxury to every sip. Stone fruit glides through the mid-palate with just the right amount of generosity and depth. It’s all beautifully balanced - rich enough to impress, bright enough to keep you coming back for “just one more taste.”
