White — Chardonnay

King Valley — Australia

Hail to the King! The king of white wine grapes, that is. True to it's Alpine home, this greets you with a swirl of citrus and stone fruit. There's a creamy element, too - something like peach cobbler or apricot yoghurt. Deftly striking a balance between richness and freshness, between full-fruited palate weight and fresh, energetic acidity. A delightful wine to say the least - this is versatile and friendly High Country chardy at it's best. Drink or hold.

2x Byron & Harold Gravity White Chardonnay 2023

White — Chardonnay

Margaret River — Australia

Wine Pilot's Ken Gargett is expecting 'an exciting future' from this Margs chardy, if you have the self-restraint not to drink it all now that is, telling us to 'enjoy over the next four to six years and expect the score to rise in the next few years'. Right now, though, this is citrusy, creamy, tropical, and floral - a winning combination for us.

You'd pay $40 full price.

2x Sorby Adams Handcrafted Chardonnay 2022

White — Chardonnay

Adelaide — Australia

Sorby Adams is a producer whose reds we have adored, and as we dabble into some whites we're continually astounded by how good his wines are. Having been head winemaker at Yalumba for 20 years, he certainly know how to make top quality vino. This chardy is genuinely unbelievable value for money: texturally it flows on the palate like a plush peach. Time on lees has meant that it has a yoghurty, creamy consistency and the finish is ever so delightful. I'm really damn excited about this wine, and I reckon you will be too mofo.

Frequently Asked Questions

This curated lineup showcases chardonnay's incredible versatility across different Australian regions and winemaking styles, from crisp unoaked expressions to rich, buttery barrel-aged wines. With ratings up to 94 points and multiple gold medals, you're getting access to premium examples that demonstrate why chardonnay is considered the world's most adaptable white grape. The collection spans different vintages and producers, giving you a masterclass in how terroir, climate, and winemaking techniques influence this noble variety's expression.

The varied palate weights and styles create a perfect progression for exploring chardonnay's spectrum, from bright, mineral-driven wines that pair beautifully with seafood to rich, creamy expressions ideal for roasted chicken or creamy pasta dishes. The tropical fruit and citrus notes in some bottles contrast beautifully with the vanilla, nougat, and buttery characteristics of others, showcasing how oak treatment and malolactic fermentation dramatically transform the grape's personality. This diversity means you'll have the perfect chardonnay for any occasion or food pairing.

The lighter, more citrus-driven styles with lemon and pear notes are exceptional with fresh oysters, grilled fish, and goat cheese salads, while the richer, vanilla and almond-scented wines complement lobster thermidor, roasted pork, and creamy mushroom risotto perfectly. The tropical fruit characteristics make certain bottles ideal partners for Asian cuisine, particularly Thai curries or Vietnamese spring rolls, while the buttery, nougat-tinged styles are sublime with aged hard cheeses and roasted poultry. This collection's range ensures you'll discover new and exciting food pairing possibilities.

Most chardonnays in this collection are designed for immediate enjoyment, particularly the 2023 vintages which showcase fresh fruit vibrancy and crisp acidity. However, the premium examples with higher ratings and more complex oak integration, especially from established producers like Clairault, can develop additional complexity over 3-5 years, with their vanilla and almond notes evolving into honeyed, nutty characteristics. The beauty of this mixed collection is that you can enjoy some bottles now while experimenting with short-term cellaring on others to discover how chardonnay transforms with age.

This collection spans multiple Australian wine regions, each bringing distinct characteristics shaped by climate, soil, and elevation differences that influence chardonnay's expression. Cool-climate regions typically produce wines with higher acidity and citrus notes, while warmer areas contribute the tropical fruit and riper peach flavours found in this lineup. The regional diversity means you're tasting how Australian terroir influences this international variety, from coastal influences that preserve freshness to inland sites that develop richer, more concentrated fruit characters.
