To say these wines are one-offs is an under-statement. We know shiraz is Australia's darling, and the demand for it is always red hot. So, to get a few cases of these exclusive cellar reserves is no easy task.

Why do we love this case?

Here, we bring you the best of the best. These are the wines that our producers have loved so dearly that they've kept a few behind at the cellar for their future selves (and, some lucky customers who might get the winemakers on a good day). We've had to do some really sweet talking, a little bit of begging, and a lot of string-pulling to curate this case. Presenting: the Aged. Shiraz. Selection. It feels good to say it, and even better to drink it.

So here you go: immaculately made, impeccably cellared shiraz from the best of the best. Now that is a good deal.

1x Farmer's Leap The Brave Shiraz 2016

Red — Shiraz

Padthaway — Australia

For those wine lovers who think ‘big is beautiful’, this is the shiraz you’re looking for! From an absolute mofo fave, and leading South Aussie shiraz producer, comes a perfectly aged wine that offers bang-for-your-buck and then some. Ripe plum and blackberry fruit is beautifully integrated with supportive vanillan oak on the nose. The palate is plush and voluptuous - all juicy fruit and textured with gentle tannins and depth of flavour that adds plenty of length. Juicy South Aussie shiraz that is just hitting it straps.

You'd pay $45 full price.

1x Devitt & Moore Captain D. Bruce Shiraz 2017

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

Deep, dark ripe fruit dazzles to begin, but then the nuance of age makes itself known, adding another element to this fantastic wine. A swarm of brambly, developed fruit is framed by punchy tannin and well integrated acidity. Seven years cellar time has allowed some fruit leather and umami to enter the flavour profile, but they're only there as a suggestion of what this wine might do over the next decade - right now its all about the fruit - luscious and complex and packing a genuine, no-holds-barred bit of punch. Chocolate, tobacco, pepper, spice – everything nice. Personally I'm torn: I would love to see what this wine looks like in the back half of the 2030s, but I know I'll drink my modest allocation by the end of the month.

You'd pay $128 full price.

1x First Drop 'Cold Sweat' Moculta Shiraz 2016

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

You say shiraz, our producer says syrah. The difference? A little elevation and a slower ripening season that results in a fresher wine out of the gate. Give that wine with all its structure and elegance a decade in bottle, and you have a whole other gem. From a single vineyard in the Eden Valley, this wine has stood the test of time with ease. Think chocolate ripple biscuits and blackcurrant fruit-rollups, all tied together in a remarkably savoury palate. You'll absolutely see the development from cellar time, in a very moreish way. We've taken almost every bottle that was ever made, so grab your chance while it's here.

You'd pay $100 full price.

1x Sunshine Creek Block X Shiraz 2018

Red — Shiraz

Yarra Valley — Australia

An all-singing, all-dancing celebration of fruit. Shiraz from the cooler regions of the Yarra Valley with a neatly assembled bouquet of raspberry, red cherry, and juicy black currant. The fruit is focused and complete and pure in its expression. The ripe aromatic profile is supported by a bit of gamey decay, some brittle leaves and delicate dried flower. Shapely and full in the mouth - the tannic profile has relaxed a little but still offers structure and a bit of welcome rigidity. Fresh and vibrant and extremely approachable - the 2018 Block X is smack bang in the middle of it’s drinking window

You'd pay $32 full price.

1x Lost Wolf Shiraz 2017

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

This tiny producer knows quality tenfold. A hundred-fold. A thousand-fold. Seriously, this is unbelievably good. When people talk about quintessential Barossa shiraz, this is what they’re thinking about. Ripe, jubey plums mingle with cocoa and sweet vanilla amidst supple tannins. The kind of wine that coats your palate and sticks around like a good friend. We’d say to save this one for special occasions, but realistically this will make any occasion special.

You'd pay $45 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

This collection features museum-quality Shiraz wines that producers have personally cellared for years, only releasing them when they've reached optimal maturity. These aren't your typical commercial releases - they're the bottles winemakers kept for themselves, representing the pinnacle of their craft. The extended cellaring has allowed complex tertiary flavours to develop, transforming the wines from their youthful fruit-forward character into sophisticated expressions with integrated tannins and nuanced complexity.

Extended cellaring transforms Shiraz dramatically, evolving the bright primary fruit flavours into deeper, more complex secondary and tertiary characteristics. The black cherry and plum notes become more concentrated and jammy, while new flavours like forest floor, minerality, and chocolate emerge through bottle ageing. The tannins soften and integrate, creating a silky mouthfeel that's impossible to achieve in young wines, while spice elements like allspice and licorice become more pronounced and harmonious.

This multi-regional, multi-vintage approach showcases how different Australian terroirs and seasonal conditions influence Shiraz expression when given proper cellaring time. Each region contributes unique characteristics - some might offer more minerality, others more fruit concentration or spice complexity. The vintage variation demonstrates how Shiraz ages differently depending on the growing season, creating a fascinating comparative tasting experience that highlights the grape's versatility across Australia's diverse wine regions.

The impressive scores from respected critics like James Suckling (94pts) and Wine Orbit (96pts), combined with international gold medals, indicate these wines have achieved exceptional technical and sensory standards. These ratings reflect not just immediate drinking pleasure, but the wines' structural integrity and ageing potential. The consistent high scores across different vintages and producers suggest this collection represents benchmark examples of aged Australian Shiraz, wines that have proven their worth through both critical assessment and time.

These full-bodied, mature Shiraz wines benefit from decanting 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the complex aromatics to fully express themselves after years in bottle. Serve at 16-18°C to showcase their developed flavours without masking the subtle tertiary notes. The rich, evolved character pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, slow-cooked lamb, game meats, or dark chocolate desserts - foods that complement rather than compete with the wines' sophisticated complexity and integrated tannin structure.
