2x Watkins Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

South Australia — Australia

These producers might be a new name to some, but their time in the industry goes way back. As evidenced by this cellar selection, they’ve honed the art of crafting wines that stand the test of time. This is an all-family affair, with the new generation stepping in to take the reigns. They’re finally releasing some beauties from their back vintages, and we were quick to jump in and bring our mofos that aged goodness. Cabernet off their currency creek vineyards gave this wine the confidence to see it through the last 6 years, with more still to come. This is the kind of wine that greets you like an old friend. Instantly familiar and merry, sure to entertain you for hours.

Smooth and rich Coonawarra cab? Say no more. We’re not going to talk to you like you don’t know what to expect, and instead we’re going to tell you why this wine is the next best thing. There’s everything you crave in the style: cocoa, minty, eucalypt mingling with blackcurrants aplenty. What’s that? 2x Pertaringa Lakeside Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

McLaren Vale — Australia

Pertaringa are no strangers to the wine game, and we're sure they're no strangers to you either. Started by Geoff Hardy, now in the hands of his daughter Bec Hardy, it's apparent that no matter the wine, this brand smashes the quality out of the park. This cabernet comes off a few blocks, and serves up juicy black fruits and densely packed coffee and tobacco notes. This is one heavy-hitter, no wonder Wine Enthusiast named this amongst their top 100 wines of 2021. This is a slam-dunk of a wine.

You'd pay $22 full price.

2x Patrick of Coonawarra Two Blocks Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

Patrick of Coonawarra really walk and talk quality. You might think that’s an inherent product of small family businesses, but we certainly know that’s not always the case. There’s unbelievable value packed into this bottle, with no effort or attention to detail spared. A decent 40% new oak contributes to sweet, abundant tannins that really make the whole drinking experience that much more exciting. This won over more than a few hearts at the tasting bench, so we’re pretty confident in saying that you’re going to be head over heels for it too, mofo.

You'd pay $32 full price.

2x Mitolo Jester Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

McLaren Vale — Australia

This is a jaw-dropping value delight from a Vale winery many a mofo has fallen in love with. This wine is built to entertain; its reason for being is to let the good times roll. Think jubilant, ripe fruit flavours with plushness to spare. A solid sprinkling of tannin keeps the edges in check and dribble-inducing flavours of liquered Morello cherry and chocolate abound.

You'd pay $27 full price.

2x Helen & Joey Inara Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Yarra Valley — Australia

The Yarra Valley has a long, proud history of cabernet production, it's only in recent years that its been less about the bigger reds and more about the pinot and chardy. This, however, speaks to that historical prowess with great confidence; rich, robust, black and red fruited cab with a thin yet persistent line of freshness running both through the fruit profile and the acid structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

This curated selection showcases cabernet sauvignon's incredible versatility across different Australian regions and winemaking styles. You'll experience everything from elegantly textured expressions to powerfully rich interpretations, demonstrating why cabernet is called the 'King of Grapes'. Each bottle tells a unique story, from Coonawarra's terra rossa soils to McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate, giving you a comprehensive education in Australian cabernet excellence.

The regional diversity in this pack highlights cabernet's remarkable ability to express terroir. Coonawarra's cool climate and famous red soil produces structured, elegant wines with distinctive eucalyptus notes, while warmer regions contribute richer, more opulent styles. This variation allows you to taste how the same grape variety can produce completely different flavour profiles based on climate, soil, and winemaking philosophy.

The range of palate weights from elegant to powerful means these cabernets pair beautifully with everything from herb-crusted lamb to rich beef dishes. The herbaceous and earthy notes complement grilled meats with rosemary, while the chocolate and vanilla characteristics from oak ageing make them perfect with aged cheeses. The black olive and tobacco notes particularly shine with Mediterranean-style dishes featuring olives, herbs, and grilled vegetables.

With vintages ranging from 2016 to 2020, this collection offers both immediate drinking pleasure and cellaring potential. The 2016 Watkins is likely hitting its stride now, showing developed complexity, while the 2019-2020 wines can be enjoyed for their youthful fruit or cellared for 5-10 years to develop tertiary flavours. Cabernet sauvignon's natural tannin structure and acidity make it one of the world's most age-worthy varieties.

The 98-point Winestate rating and multiple gold medals indicate exceptional quality across the selection, representing wines that have impressed professional critics and competition judges. These accolades suggest careful vineyard management, skilled winemaking, and wines that showcase their regional characteristics beautifully. The Five Star Halliday ratings particularly indicate producers at the top of their game, as James Halliday is one of Australia's most respected wine authorities.
