2x Shiraz 2018

Red — Shiraz

Padthaway — Australia

Lovers of big, bold South Aussie shiraz can tell you, that just around the corner from Coonawara lies the region of Padthaway. Where cab shines in Coonawarra, shiraz is the star of Padthaway. We’ve seen a few vintages of this wine, all delicious and consistent in style. First, the nose hints at blackberries and an alluring mocha note. It’s full and rich on the palate, with blood plums, cherries and spice. The wine is excellent value and delivers all of the power and flavour that SA shiraz is famous for.

You'd pay $28 full price.

2x Shiraz Blend 2017

Red — Shiraz Blend

Langhorne Creek — Australia

This winery might be new to some, but their contributions to the wine industry have pre-dated many. In fact, they’ve been making the wines for many big name South Australian wineries for decades. Walk into their cellar door right on the border of McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, and you’ll never want to leave. I was captured with their cellar reserve wines, the way that the plush fruit balanced so well with the savoury edges. There is no occasion that this wine doesn’t fit.

You'd pay $35 full price.

2x Riesling 2022

White — Riesling

Limestone Coast — Australia

Riesling that is bright, young and fresh as a daisy - coming at you for at an epic price in a dozen. Yes please! We can’t tell you who the producer is - but we can tell you they craft excellent and very reliable wines. This rizza is full of blossoms and citrus, a nervy line of acid and beautiful texture. Whether you drink now or hold for a couple of years, it is sure to please.

2x Pinot Gris 2022

White — Pinot Gris

Limestone Coast — Australia

This pinot gris is all about great winemaking. It’s an idea that seems rather obvious, doesn’t it? We’re not just talking about standard, good, everyday wine here. No no. This is an outstanding drop from a winemaker whom we adore, if for no other reason than they never let us down. Not once. Their wines are fun, playful, energetic and geared for drinking on every occasion (no, apparently, a glass of gris with breakfast on a Tuesday doesn’t regularly fall into that category). But hey, you try and keep your hands off!

You'd pay $30 full price.

2x Sauvignon Blanc 2021

White — Sauvignon Blanc

Adelaide Hills — Australia

This producer is one that has a cult following for delicious, completely smashable wines that bring more enjoyment than they should. It's great to support family owned brands, but very few put quite this much energy and vibrancy into their wine ranges as this one. Their savvy b from the famed Adelaide Hills is bright, crunchy, and a touch herbaceous for the ultimate thirst quencher. Cheers to a great glass of sauv!

You'd pay $20 full price.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a strategic arrangement where established winemakers partner with retailers to offer premium wines at exceptional prices without affecting their regular market positioning. By keeping producer identities confidential, these boutique wineries can clear excess inventory or trial new blends while maintaining their brand integrity and existing distributor relationships. It's a win-win situation that allows wine lovers to access high-quality, professionally crafted wines at significantly reduced prices.

The diverse selection spans from crisp, refreshing whites like Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc perfect for aperitifs and seafood, to robust reds like Shiraz and Merlot ideal for hearty meals and evening relaxation. The variety of vintages from 2017 to 2022 also provides wines at different stages of development, from youthful and vibrant expressions to more mature, complex profiles. This range ensures you'll have appropriate wines for casual weeknight dinners, entertaining guests, or special celebrations.

The impressive scores ranging from 94-95 points from respected critics like Kim Brebach and Wine Orbit demonstrate that despite the anonymous labelling, these wines maintain professional winemaking standards. These ratings are particularly significant because they're awarded to wines that compete directly with premium branded bottles costing significantly more. The consistent high scoring across multiple varietals suggests careful curation and quality control in the selection process.

The red selection offers a compelling progression from the elegant, plum and berry-driven Merlot 2021 to the more intense Shiraz expressions featuring blackberry, spice, and leather notes. The Shiraz Blend 2017 adds complexity with its additional bottle age, likely showing more integrated tannins and developed secondary flavours. This combination allows you to explore different red wine styles and understand how varietals and vintage variation create distinct flavour profiles within Australian winemaking.

The mixed vintage range from 2017 to 2022 provides both immediate drinking pleasure and short to medium-term cellaring potential. The 2022 whites like Riesling and Pinot Gris are at their peak freshness and should be enjoyed within 2-3 years, while the 2017 Shiraz Blend has already developed complexity and could continue evolving for another 3-5 years. The boutique producer credentials suggest these wines were made with proper structure for aging, though the anonymous nature means you're getting cellar-worthy quality at everyday drinking prices.
