2x Devitt & Moore William Pile Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
Winemakers across the board described the stellar 2022 vintage as a growing season that produced wines of elegance and structure with depth and length of flavour and it is all on show here in a big, bold and beautiful way. Have you got a roast or bbq planned? Crack a bottle of this. Want to impress an in-law who only likes full-bodied reds? Crack a bottle. Long week and need a glass of red to relax? Crack a bottle. At this point you'll need a few bottles always on hand but when the wine is this good and suits so many occasions, you'd be silly not to have a box stashed away.
You ’d pay $85 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x Pertaringa 'Belonging to the Hills' Shiraz 2023
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
An instant staple of the cellar. This one is completely irresistible. A normal afternoon tasting at the Mofo tasting bench was quickly interrupted when this wine was poured. Suddenly, all attention was caught, and the moment savoured. Bec Hardy, you've done it again. The Pertaringa name is no stranger to the Aussie household. The iconic Hardy family are to wine what vegemite is to toast: a perfect match. So, to land this beauty from the hands of Bec Hardy is monumental for us, and we couldn't be more pleased. This is McLaren Shiraz through and through, with densely packed dark chocolate and fresh roasted coffee exploding on the nose. The palate follows through just as true, layered with preserved plums, dark forest berries and a lick of vanillin softness. There's one word for this wine, and it's awesome.

2x Pirramimma Heritage Shiraz 2023
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
If you don’t know by now, we think it’s time for you to loop yourself in. The Pirramimma Limited Edition Shiraz comes from the fruit out of the famous “War Horse” and “Ironstone” blocks. The vines are old and what they lack in quantity (yield), they make up for in superb quality. Full bodied, but balanced with pepper and spice, there are just so many layers to discover in this wine. Laden with luscious, ripe blackberries, earthy blackcurrants, mocha, hints of cedar and a dollop of liquorice, you’re in for a treat with this divine, velvety red.

2x Monterra Reserve Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
If the reviews didn't prove it, this top-tier shiraz is all about maximum flavour and maximum oomph. An ex-Penfolds winemaker, some top-shelf premium juice... this was always destined for greatness. Big punchy flavours emanate from this sleekly packaged wine, think sumptuous McLaren Vale flavours of dense dark chocolate, fresh figs and mulberry, black cherry and black pepper. You bloody beauty, it’s not easy to put down the glass. We should probably note that this winemaker was the group red winemaker for Penfolds, cleaning up in winemaking trophies during their tenure. Pretty high standards we set here for you Mofo.

Tasting Notes
2x Lights Valley Shiraz 2023
Red — Shiraz
Barossa — Australia
Not all wines are made the same. And certainly not all Barossa shiraz is made the same. It's not easy to make such a dense and complex wine, but when you've got access to fruit from premo vineyards in the Barossa and the know-how to use it - you're one step towards success. Weighty, deep, dark, spicy and smooth - this one's an absolute triumph. On any given day, there's probably about 40 bottles of shiraz on our tasting bench. The range on any given day goes from those $10 bottles to $500 or $1000 value. As buyers, you'll always be surprised at the ones that take the medal. This one was the clear winner one particular day, pleasing each and every person that joined the bench for a sip. Juicy, jubey and dense; there's absolutely nothing that you won't love about this wine, and that's a guarantee.
You’d pay $45 full price.

Tasting Notes
2x d'Arenberg Wild Pixie Shiraz 2022
Red — Shiraz
McLaren Vale — Australia
This is McLaren Vale shiraz from the absolute best in the business - we mean that. A potent elixir of vibrant red cherries and blue plums. A swirl of raspberry and liquorice. Dusky, earthy savouriness and piney cedar wood chime in late and usher the fruit along. A tried and true Mofo favourite. We love this wine for many reasons, but most of all it's the way it jumps out of the glass. Its one of those wines you're reluctant to drink because there is so much joy to be had in just smelling it. On the palate herbaceous blackcurrant leaf and herbal tea flank what is a powerful fruit core. Dark berry compote and quince dominate. Fresh and bright acidity (aided, in part, by the splash of roussanne that's added to the ferment) gather and drive the fruit density through a long, lasting finish. As far as the Wild Pixie is concerned, this is the best incarnation yet.
You’d pay $35 full price.
