2x Pertaringa 'Belonging to the Hills' Shiraz 2022

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

The Pertaringa name is no stranger to the Aussie household. The iconic Hardy family are to wine what vegemite is to toast: a perfect match. So, to land this beauty from the hands of Bec Hardy is monumental for us, and we couldn't be more pleased. This is McLaren Shiraz through and through, with densely packed dark chocolate and fresh roasted coffee exploding on the nose. The palate follows through just as true, layered with preserved plums, dark forest berries and a lick of vanillin softness. There's one word for this wine, and it's awesome.

You'd pay $60 full price.

2x Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

A seriously powerful bottle of wine with other-worldly levels of deliciousness. This is one robust shiraz that can be enjoyed now and long into the future, so don't be afraid to hold on to a couple of bottles.
In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. With Angela Miranda at the helm of the winemaking, this is one well made wine. There's a good dose of American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ole’ steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and in the future.

You'd pay $50 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

This curated dozen features Australia's most beloved Shiraz expressions, each earning prestigious ratings of 94-95 points from respected critics like Ray Jordan and Wine Orbit. The collection spans multiple regions and vintages, showcasing how Shiraz adapts to different terroirs while maintaining its signature full-bodied character. These aren't just high-scoring wines - they represent the diversity and excellence that has made Australian Shiraz a global benchmark for the variety.

While all share Shiraz's characteristic full-bodied richness, each wine offers distinct personality traits from blackcurrant and blood plum to more complex notes of black olive, cedar, and liquorice. The meaty, chocolate, and spice elements reflect different winemaking approaches and regional influences. This diversity allows you to explore how factors like vineyard elevation, soil type, and oak treatment create unique expressions within the same variety.

These 2021-2022 vintage Shiraz wines are entering their prime drinking window, offering immediate pleasure with their rich fruit flavours and integrated tannins. However, quality Australian Shiraz typically develops beautifully over 5-10 years, gaining complexity and tertiary flavours like leather and earth. The full-bodied structure and high ratings suggest these wines have excellent cellaring potential if you prefer more developed, nuanced profiles.

The rich, meaty character and spice notes make these Shiraz wines perfect partners for grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with pepper crusts. The chocolate and plum flavours also complement game dishes and aged cheeses beautifully. For vegetarian options, try them with mushroom-based dishes or roasted eggplant - the earthy, oaky elements will create harmonious flavour bridges.

Sourcing from various Australian regions demonstrates Shiraz's remarkable adaptability and the diverse expressions possible within our wine landscape. Each region contributes unique characteristics - some may offer more pepper and spice, others more fruit concentration or mineral complexity. This approach gives you a comprehensive education in Australian Shiraz styles, showing why the variety has become synonymous with Australian wine excellence across multiple terroirs.
